In the past, we have discussed the increasing demand for used luxury cars in India, as people often buy them at attractive prices. However, as we’ve mentioned before, luxury cars, like any other luxury goods, tend to depreciate quickly, making maintenance costs and other expenses a significant concern for those who purchase them second-hand. Additionally, fuel efficiency can be an issue for these vehicles.
There is a video by Zuby USTAD on his YouTube channel that demonstrates how a Mercedes-Benz C-Class with a V6 petrol engine performs after installing an aftermarket CNG kit. In the video, the vlogger discusses the components of the CNG kit installed in the C230 petrol sedan, which uses a 2.5-liter V6 petrol engine that generates 204 Ps and 245 Nm of peak torque. The car is equipped with an automatic transmission that powers the rear wheels. The components installed in this car are the same as those in other cars, such as a gas refilling valve, reducer, pressure gauge, ECU for the CNG system, and other plumbing work.

The luxury sedan appears stock from the outside and inside, with the only noticeable difference being the presence of the gas cylinder in the boot. Despite this addition, there is still ample space for luggage in the car’s massive boot. After explaining and showing all the components, the vlogger takes the car for a drive and notes that he had previously driven the car without the CNG kit, and it had impressive acceleration. However, after installing the CNG kit, he did not notice any difference in performance, and the car had become more fuel-efficient. The car was still running just fine and the button to switch between CNG and petrol was placed on the center console. It looks like the vlogger was testing the car for any errors after installing the kit.
The vlogger mentions that the car’s fuel efficiency was approximately 5-6 kmpl before installing the CNG kit, but it would now deliver between 12-14 kmpl, depending on the driving style. This Mercedes-Benz C-Class is a 2009 model and almost 15 years old. Rather than being scrapped, the vlogger suggests that it would be better to use the car with this modification to reduce the overall running costs of the luxury sedan. He also advises viewers to keep certain things in mind when making such alterations, such as taking the car to an experienced workshop that specializes in luxury cars, as the components of these cars can be expensive to repair if something goes wrong. Additionally, the CNG kit should be appropriately tuned to prevent any lag while driving.
Recently we have been seeing a rise in number of people who have been opting for CNG cars. Many manufacturers like Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai and Tata offer factory fitted CNG kits. Other than this people who were using petrol cars have also installed aftermarket CNG kits due to rising fuel prices. One should always ensure that you are installing an RTO approved kit to avoid any issues with the kit.
