Mercedes G63 AMG launched at Rs.1.46 crore

Mercedes-Benz has just launched a new G-Wagon – G63 AMG with an added dose of madness, at a price of Rs.1,45,77,000 ex-showroom Mumbai.

The iconic G-Class, which has been in production since the past 34 years, continues its success story with AMG equipping the humble G-Wagon with more luxurious interiors, discreet modifications in design and styling, enhanced safety features and a new infotainment system.

The G63 is powered by a 5.5 liter supercharged AMG V8 engine which develops a whopping 544 Bhp at 5,500 Rpm and an earth churning 760 Nm of torque at a mere 2,000 Rpm. It comes equipped with an automatic transmission. These numbers easily translate into a 0-100 Kmph timing of 5.4 seconds and that is outrageous performance for a vehicle weighing 3.2 tonnes.

Top speed is a max of 210 Kmph but that may not be a cause of concern when you know the sheer might and impressive capabilities of the G63 to tackle the roughest of terrains that Mother Nature can throw in its path. The 275mm wide tyres are shodded on huge 20 inch rims. Also read: First photos of the Mercedes A-class sedan out

The G63 remains extremely efficient thanks to the standard-fit ECO start/stop function. The exterior too gets AMG touches like an AMG radiator grille with chromed twin louvers, AMG wheel-arch flaring with a ‘V8 BITURBO’ logo, an AMG exhaust system with twin chromed side tailpipes and AMG 10-spoke light-alloy wheels in Titanium Grey with red painted brake calipers.

The interiors are just as impressive with the illuminated AMG stainless steel door sill panels, seats in designer leather, leather-trimmed dashboards and multi-function steering wheel as well as door panels in ruffled leather, headlining in anthracite Alcantara and the ambient lighting. The interiors can also be specified with carbon-fiber trim.

Managing Director and CEO Mercedes-Benz India, Eberhard Kern commented, “The G-Class has the essential attributes of a Mercedes-Benz: Dynamism, comfort, safety and status. Yet its pedigree and classic form has been retained across the 34 years of its existence. Also read: Mercedes Benz B-Class unveiled and driven

The G-Class retains its shape, rugged design and the same mission to cope with extreme conditions. It’s not surprising therefore, that the G-Class is called upon to serve in extreme terrains; its cult status makes it the vehicle of choice of world leaders and celebrities alike.” The G63 AMG’s launch was also a platform to announce the premier of the movie “A Good Day to Die Hard” in which the car is featured in a breathtaking chase sequence through Moscow.

The G-Class will find its way into the “rich and famous’” parking lots who have a taste for exclusivity, power and class in a product which still is reminiscent of the ageless design of an iconic SUV.
