MG Astor and ZS EV facelift revealed; Launch in India in 2023

MG has unveiled the facelifted version of its popular midsize SUV ZS, which is sold as Astor in the Indian car market. The facelifted MG ZS has been unveiled for the international markets and is the same for its electrified version, the ZS EV, as well. The facelift is majorly focused on the changes to the front profile, with it having minor changes to the side and rear profiles as well. The facelifted MG ZS has been launched in Thailand, where the vehicle has been branded as MG VS.

On the outside, the facelifted MG ZS gets a completely reworked fascia, where the large and rounded grille has been replaced by a sleek and sharper, horizontally stretched grille. Even the sweptback headlamps have been replaced by sharp-edged headlamps, which continue to have all-LED treatment. The front bumper is also new and now sports a unique diamond pattern with larger air intakes on the sides.

The side and rear profiles of the revised MG ZS continue to remain more or less the same, though with minor changes like a revised design for the machined alloy wheels and new LED inserts for the tail lamps. While the details of the interiors are not yet available, the new MG ZS and ZS EV are expected to get the same cabin layout with features like a fully-digital instrument console, a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a large panoramic sunroof.

Petrol-hybrid option

In Thailand, the MG ZS (or the VS as it is called there) has arrived with a petrol-hybrid powertrain. However, if the facelifted MG Astor arrives here sometime in the future, it will continue to have the same set of petrol-powered engine options, which include a 1.5-litre 115 PS naturally-aspirated petrol engine and a 1.3-litre 140 PS turbocharged petrol engine. For the ZS EV, MG will likely retain the 50.3 kWh battery pack from the current version, which claims a range of 461 km.

MG hasn’t confirmed when these facelifted versions of the ZS (Astor) and ZS EV will come to India. However, in all likelihood, MG might roll out these newer versions towards the end of 2023 or at the beginning of 2024, considering that the current versions of both SUVs were launched in India not a long time ago. For now, MG is working on launching the updated version of the Hector midsize SUV, which will go on sale from January 2023 onwards. MG is also working on launching the all-electric car called Air EV, which is a two-door micro battery-electric city car.
