MG recently unveiled their new mid-size SUV, Astor. It will be the most affordable vehicle in MG’s line-up. The Astor will be the most affordable vehicle in India to be offered with ADAS or Advanced Driver Aids System. It will get Autonomous Level 2 features that include 14 ADAS features. Below are the features that Astor will be offering:-
Lane Functions
Lane Functions consist of three different functions. There is Lane Keep Assist, Lane Departure Warning and Lane Departure Prevention. Lane Keep Assist works through a camera that is mounted in front of the vehicle. It monitors the lane marking and helps in keeping the vehicle in the lane. Lane Departure Warning alerts the driver when the vehicle starts to move out of its lane. Then there is Lane Departure Prevention that works with the Lane Departure Warning. So, after the warning, the system applies the brakes so that the vehicle moves back to its lane.

Rear Drive Assist
The Rear Drive Assist function detects what is happening at the rear of the vehicle. There is Blind Spot Detection, Lane Change Assist and Rear Cross Traffic Alert. The Blind Spot Detection system detects the vehicles that are in the blind spot of the driver. The Lane Change Assist system detects vehicles approaching at a high speed while you are changing the lane. The Rear Cross Traffic Alert alerts the driver about the oncoming vehicles while reversing the vehicle.
Adaptive Cruise Control
We can consider the Adaptive Cruise Control an advanced version of the regular cruise control that we get on current vehicles. The system monitors the speed of the vehicle in front of you and then accelerates and decelerates depending on the speed of the vehicle going in front of you.
Forward Collision Prevention
Forward Collision Prevention comes with three autonomous features. There is Front Collision Warning, Automatic Emergency Braking and Pedestrian and Two-wheeler Detection and all of these systems are extensions of each other. As the name suggests, the Forward Collision Warning system detects if there your vehicle is going to hit the vehicle in front of you and alerts the driver. Then there is Automatic Emergency Braking and automatically applies the brakes in case the driver does not stop the vehicle. Finally, there is Pedestrian Detection and Two-wheeler detection in which the vehicle can detect two-wheelers and pedestrians and can apply the brake automatically if it detects the vehicle is going to hit them.
Speed Assist System
Speed Assist System helps in following the speed limits. It has three features, namely Speed Warning, Intelligent Speed Limit and Manual Speed Limit. The Speed Warning System detects the speed limit signs and alerts the driver when the car goes above the speed limit. In Intelligent Speed Limit, the vehicle reduces the speed of the vehicle to the speed limit automatically. In Manual mode, the driver can set the speed limit manually.
Intelligent Headlamp Control
Intelligent Headlamp Control activates and deactivates the high beam by detecting the oncoming traffic and environment situations. This ensures that the oncoming drivers are not blinded by the high beam of your vehicle.
