MG Motor will unveil the eZS electric SUV on 5 December, 2019. The MG eZS will be India’s second electric SUV, coming close on the heels of the Hyundai Kona Electric’s launch. It’ll also be India’s first self-drive rental electric SUV.
Electric cab company Lithium Technologies is all set to offer the MG eZS on its platform across multiple Indian cities for the self-drive and executive rental market. Lithium Technologies already offers the Mahindra eVerito electric sedan as a cab in specific cities of India. The Mahindra eVerito electric taxis are primarily deployed as a transportation solution for IT professionals. Here are the first pictures of the self-drive version of the MG eZS.
Lithium Technologies will offer the MG eZS on its platform from January 2020. Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Ahmedabad will be the five cities where the electric SUV will be initially available. MG Motor will make the eZS available in more cities across India in the coming months. The electric SUV will be assembled in India through the completely knocked down (CKD) kit route at its factory in Halol, Gujarat.
The electric SUV will use a synchronous motor with a 44.5 Kwh lithium-ion battery, which puts out 141 Bhp of peak power and 353 Nm of peak torque. A CVT automatic gearbox will power the front wheels of the SUV, and will have a 300 kilometer range on a single charge. The battery can be recharged to 80 % capacity in just 40 minutes by using a fast charger. A regular charger will fully charge the battery in 7 hours.
The MG eZS electric SUV will take on the Hyundai Kona, and is expected to be priced at Rs. 22 lakhs, undercutting the Kona by a couple of lakhs to drive home a competitive advantage. The eZS will measure 4,314 mm in length, 1,809 mm in width, 1,620 mm in height and 2,579 mm in wheelbase. Air conditioning, power steering, well appointed interiors, a touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a rear view camera, airbags, brake energy regeneration and ABS will be the key features on offer in the MG eZS.
Bookings for the MG eZS are not yet open. Like the Hector, the MG eZS will be a highly connected SUV, and will have on-board internet connectivity. Meanwhile, here is a teaser video of the eZS, presented by Benedict Cumberbatch – the brand ambassador for MG Motor in India.
