MG Motors made their entry into the country with an SUV Hector which turned out to be a huge success for the brand. The MG Hector gained popularity in a very short span of time because of the price, looks and the unique features it offered. It is quite a common sight on our roads and had a long waiting period when launched. The demand was so high at a point that they had to stop taking anymore booking as their plant was not able to manufacture that many cars. Now MG Motors has launched the MG Hector diesel BS6 in the market and the deliveries will only be starting after Corona virus lockdown.
The MG Hector remains a premium looking mid-size SUV in the segment. It competes with cars like Kia Seltos, Hyundai Creta, Tata Harrier and Mahindra XUV500 in the segment. In comparison to the BS4 version, the BS6 MG Hector has a price difference of Rs 40,000 to Rs 45,000 depending up on the variant one chooses. There is no change in the trim levels, or the equipment on offer.
The top end variants continue to gets features like panoramic sunroof, connected car features, Tesla-style infotainment system,powered tail gate and so on. It continues to get the four variants Style, Super, Smart and Sharp where Style is base and the Sharp is the top end trim. The price for the BS6 version of the Hector diesel now starts at Rs 13.88 lakh which is Rs 40,000.more expensive than the BS4 version. The higher variants Smart and Sharp are Rs 45,000 more expensive than the BS4 version.
There are no mechanical changes in the engine and it continues to draw its power from the Fiat-sourced 2.0 litre turbocharged diesel engine. The engine is only available with a manual gearbox and generates a maximum of 170 Bhp and 350 Nm of peak torque. MG Motors will also be launching a 6-seater version of the Hector known as Hector Plus in the market later this year. MG had showcased the 6-seater version at the Auto Expo this year along with the Gloster luxury SUV and MG G10 premium or luxury MPV.
The Hector is also available with a 1.5 liter, turbocharged petrol engine and a 1.5 liter turbo petrol engine with a mild hybrid. The petrol motor and the petrol mild hybrid make 141 Bhp-250 Nm, and are offered with a 6 speed manual gearbox. A 6 speed twin clutch automatic option is on offer in the petrol (non mild hybrid) trim.
