MG Hector Facelift to be launched in 2021

MG has already started testing the new Hector facelift in India and the vehicle has been spotted several times too. According to ACI, the new facelifted version will be launched in January 2021. The most striking change in the exterior of the upcoming Hector is its grille. It is of the same size as before but the horizontal lines are similar to the Chevrolet Captiva that is sold in the South American markets.

It is quite early for a car, which has completed only about one and a half year in the Indian market to get an update. However, given the stiff competition an MG’s best-selling product fresh in the market, the update will be launched next year. There are many who have complained about the current tyre size of the MG Hector. Well, with the update, the tyre size will be upgraded to 18-inches. It will definitely add some bulk to Hector’s appearance.

On the inside, the updated MG Hector is likely to get a dual-tone cabin, which is already available with the 7-seater MG Hector Plus. Also, a few updated features like auto-dimming IRVM will be added.

Mechanically, there will not be any changes to the engine and transmission options available with the Hector. It will continue to get powered by the 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine and a 2.0-litre diesel engine. MG will continue to offer the 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol with an optional hybrid system too. The gearbox options will remain the same – 6-speed manual with all the engine options and a 6-speed dual-clutch automatic with the petrol, non-hybrid version. MG may also add an automatic transmission to the diesel engine option that is currently missing. Its rival – the Harrier offers diesel-automatic in the segment.

With the updated Hector, we can expect a price hike on the vehicle too. It should be noted that MG Hector is an extremely popular car and sells around 3,000 units every month. It is priced between Rs 12.84 lakh and Rs 18.09 lakh and takes on the likes of Tata Harrier and mid to top-end variants of the vehicles like Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos.

MG will exclusively focus on the SUVs in the coming years. Currently, it offers the Hector, Hector Plus, Gloster and ZS EV. Next year, the brand plans to offer the petrol version of the ZS EV. It will become the most affordable vehicle in MG’s line-up in India. While details on the engine option powering the new ZS is not known, it is likely to get a 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine. Since the petrol version of the MG ZS will be a facelifted version of the car, it will look quite different from the EV. It will allow MG to take on the cars like Creta, Seltos and Kicks directly in the Indian market. MG is yet to officially say anything on the upcoming launches yet.
