Unlike its direct rival, the Mahindra XUV700, the MG Hector hasn’t been tested yet in the Global NCAP crash tests. However, the midsize SUV from MG claims a sturdy build quality, with many stories of its owners already praising it for the same. The accidents indicates the overall build quality of the MG Hector. In this recent accident from Bihar, where a Hector collided with a tractor while keeping its driver safe.
The details of this accident have been reported through a YouTube video from Prateek Singh. The accident involving the MG Hector and a tractor has been reported from Bihar. According to the details revealed in the video, the owner of the MG Hector was driving at a speed of nearly 100 kmph, before colliding head-on with a tractor. In this accident, the tractor driver was at fault for driving the tractor in the wrong lane.

Due to the sudden emergence of the tractor driver in the wrong lane, the person driving the MG Hector couldn’t respond and collided head-on, resulting in a high-speed accident. In this collision, the front end of the MG Hector can be seen badly damaged, while the front end of the tractor was broken into two halves. The driver of the tractor is reported to have fled after the accident, which further puts him under blame.
Given the severe condition of the MG Hector, which can be seen in the pictures of the accident, it is surprising that the person driving it escaped unhurt with no injuries. It sure shows the the strong build quality of the Hector, as the SUV has absorbed the head-on impact with no damages beyond the A-pillars. However, in this crash, the engine bay and front wheels of the MG Hector can be seen in a completely broken condition.
The impact did not reach the passengers in the cabin. We can see in the pictures that all the pillars of the car remain intact. While we cannot comment on the structural integrity of the Hector, it sure looks like a strong car.
MG Hector not tested by Global NCAP
The MG Hector was launched in India in 2019, but even after three years of its existence in the market, it has not been tested yet in the Global NCAP crash tests. However, its nearest rival, the Mahindra XUV700, was tested in the Global NCAP crash tests soon after its launch in India, in which it secured a very impressive five-star rating.
The MG Hector is due for a comprehensive update in January 2023, which will see the midsize SUV receiving exterior tweaks and new interiors. However, it will retain the current powertrain lineup, comprising a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine with 6-speed manual and CV gearbox options and a 2.0-litre diesel engine with a 6-speed manual gearbox.
