MG Motor inaugurates Agra’s first superfast charging station for electric cars

MG Motors India had officially made their entry into Indian market back in 2019 with Hector SUV. Earlier this year, they also launched their second product which was a completely electric vehicle. The MG ZS EV competes with the likes of Hyundai Kona and Tata Nexon EV in the segment. As a part of expanding the charging network for Electric vehicles, MG India has now a superfast charging station in partnership with Tata Power in Uttar Pradesh’s Agra. The public charging station was inaugurated at MG Motor’s Agra Showroom as a part of #NHforEV2020 tech trial run flagged off in Delhi.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Gaurav Gupta, Chief Commercial Officer, MG Motor India, said,

The launch of the EV trial run from Delhi to Agra by the Government of India is a strong step towards adoption of EVs in our country. With the culmination of the trial run taking place at MG Agra Dealership, where we today also inaugurated a fast-charging station in partnership with Tata Power, citizens here will be able to access the public charging facility. Vehicles such as ZS EV offer a range of 340 kilometers on a single charge, making them ideal for Delhi-Agra commute. At MG, we feel proud to have pioneered the EV ecosystem in India with a robust 5-way charging network. We are also actively forging partnerships with key charging enablers such as Tata Power and Exicom to further expand the EV ecosystem across the nation.

The newly installed 60 kW superfast charging facility will be available for customers 24×7 and comes with CCS/CHAdeMO fast-charging standards. The inauguration came as an extension of the Tech Trial Run conducted from Delhi to Agra, which was flagged off by senior government dignitaries at India Gate on 25^th November 2020. The convoy of vehicles completed its journey at the MG showroom in Agra on the same day with the ZS EV covering the Delhi-Agra journey in a single charge.

MG’s only electric vehicle in India ZS EV, comes in two variants – Excite and Exclusive. Starting price for MG ZS EV is Rs 20.88 lakh, ex-showroom. MG has sold over 1,000 units of ZS EVs across the country. This is actually a good sign and the only thing these manufacturers and authorities have to take care of is to provide charging infrastructure.

Electric vehicles are slowly but steadily getting more popular in India. Currently, there are 3 practical electric cars on sale in India, and all of them are SUVs: the MG eZS, the Hyundai Kona and the Tata Nexon Electric. Of these, the Tata Nexon Electric is the most affordable EV, and also the best seller thanks to its sharp pricing. Next year, a range of electric SUVs are expected to be launched in India, including the Mahindra eXUV300 and the eKUV100. The Indian government is incentivizing electric vehicle manufacture and purchase through tax breaks and various other measures.
