MG Motor prepares to launch the facelifted Hector SUV

British automotive marque MG Motor India made its debut in the country with India’s first ‘Internet SUV’ Hector in June 2019 and a facelift was introduced in January 2021. Overall sales have been impacted, however, because of global supply chain constraints and COVID-19. And now, MG is readying a big facelift for the Hector.

According to MG Motor India, it managed to dispatch 4,013 Hectors in July 2022, which translated into a negative 5.02 percent YoY (year over year) from 4,225 units in the same month last year. So to recapture the market share that has been lost the British automaker will be unveiling the revised model of the MG Hector SUV during this Diwali season. It is widely believed that the most significant changes in the next-gen Hector will be the inclusion of the anticipated Level 2 ADAS (advanced driver assistance system). If sources are true then we could be seeing features like Lane departure warning, front collision warning, blind spot identification, and rear cross-traffic alert in the forthcoming model.

Furthermore, a touchscreen infotainment system with an improved user interface and an upgraded digital instrument cluster is also likely to be included in the SUV. Additionally, the list of features will still include a 360-degree view camera, a panoramic sunroof, a co-driver seat with four electrical adjustment points and a driver seat with six, keyless entry, an eight-speaker audio system, a 7.0-inch MID, PU-leather upholstery, a tyre pressure monitoring system, a rear parking camera, and much more.

Aside from these new additions and upgrades, the MG Hector will also receive subtle external changes, such as new all-LED headlights, taillamps, and bumper designs. With a few small changes to the alloy wheel design, the side profile however could look the same. Other innovations expected for the new Hector include AI-assisted talking robot.

In terms of engine options under the hood, it is anticipated that they remain the same that are currently available in the outgoing model. These powertrain options include a 2.0-liter 170 PS diesel engine with a 6-speed manual transmission as standard and a 1.5-litre 143 PS turbocharged petrol engine with a 6-speed manual and CVT gearbox option.

Meanwhile in other MG news, recently the company announced that it has achieved a massive milestone. The company revealed that its all-electric SUV – the ZS EV has crossed the sales tally of 5000 units in the country. It also added that the ZS EV is currently consistently receiving over 1,000 reservations every month. Morris Garages updated India’s first-ever electric SUV – the ZS EV and launched the 2022 model in March of this year. The brand launched the facelifted version of the ZS EV at a price tag of Rs 22 lakh, ex-showroom.
