MG’s Upcoming Hector SUV Caught Testing Again in India [Video]

MG Motor is all set to make its entry into the Indian automotive market. The first product that the company will launch in India will be a mid-size SUV. Last month they officially revealed the name of the SUV as Hector. MG is expected to launch this SUV in first half of 2019. The Hector was recently spotted testing on Indian roads.

In the video published by Shifting-Gears, the upcoming MG Hector is seen testing under heavy camouflage on a straight highway. As it overtakes a moving truck the Audi like sweeping indicators of the Hector can also be seen. Later on a service road, a couple of MG Hector SUVs are seen and the rider follows both the vehicles to get a better view of the upcoming SUV.

MG’s or Morris Garage Hector is based on Chinese SUV Baojun 530 and will compete with cars like Jeep Compass, Hyundai Tucson and recently launched Tata Harrier. MG has been working to locally manufacture the upcoming car and target to achieve at least 75 percent localisation before the launch. The video also reveals the full LED headlamps and tail lights. This is not the first time that Hector was spotted testing, and the frequent spotting of Hector could only mean that the SUV is about to be launched soon.

On the inside Hector will get a long list of features including a 360 degree parking camera, flat bottom steering, dual-tone dashboard and a flat rear floor for maximum space. Under the hood MG Hector will get a 2.0 liter Multijet diesel engine from Fiat. It is expected to generate about 170 Bhp of power. It is the same engine that is seen on Jeep Compass and Tata Harrier. It will also get a 1.5 liter petrol engine and a 6-Speed DCT gearbox.

In terms of positioning, the MG Hector is expected to rival the Jeep Compass, and sit in the sub Rs. 20 lakh SUV segment. The Hyundai Tucson, the upcoming Tata H7X 7 seat SUV, and the Mahindra XUV500  are other potential rivals of the Hector. MG has plans to set up 110 sales and service touch points across India before launch and for that company has tied up with five leading private sector banks to offer vehicle loans to its customers and dealers. It signed agreement with Axis Bank, HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, Kotak Mahindra Bank and Yes Bank.
