Fiat India will launch the facelifted Grande Punto EVO hatchback in the middle of August 2014. The Avventura crossover styled hatchback will arrive a few weeks down the line, in September. The cars will be the second and third major launches for Fiat India this year, and will be aimed at boosting volumes for the Italian car maker. The Punto is the best selling Fiat car in India and the facelifted model, replete with a slew of improvements, is expected to further increase sales.
The facelifted Punto EVO features a big list of changes, from revised exterior styling to an all-new dashboard on the inside. The car also gets new features such as rear AC vents and ambient lighting. Engines and transmissions remain unchanged though, with 1.2 liter and 1.4 liter petrol engines, and a 1.3 liter turbo diesel engine in two states of tune. All engines are mated to five speed manual transmissions.
The Avventura is an offshoot of the Punto, with a body kit and a higher stance, to give it a crossover-like look. The Avventura’s body kit, higher ground clearance, taller 16 inch wheels and a spare wheel mounted on the hatch lid will make the car mirror a crossover. The Avventura’s competition in India will come from crossover styled hatchbacks such as the Volkswagen Polo Cross and the Toyota Etios Cross.
The Avventura will shares its petrol and turbo diesel engines with the Punto EVO. However, expect the 1.4 liter petrol motor (89 Bhp-115 Nm) and the 1.3 liter Multijet diesel motor (90 Bhp-200 Nm) with a variable geometry turbocharger to be the two engines offered on the Avventura, given the car’s additional weight when compared to the Punto. The Avventura will share its interiors and features with the Punto EVO, and will be positioned above the latter in terms of pricing.
