Man builds fully functional Willy’s Jeep for his kids: Anand Mahindra is very impressed [Video]

Arunkumar from Kerala has made quite a few miniature vehicles in the past. This one is, however, different and even Mahindra bossman Anand Mahindra took note of it. Arunkumar from Kerala has made the Jeep to gift it to his 10-year old boy from Kollam. The miniature Willys is fully functional and it took him seven months to complete.

The Willy’s Jeep made by the Keralite is inspired by the Malayalam movie Lucifer. The vehicle weighs only 75 kg and it is powerful enough to pull twice its weight. He made the whole car in his spare time. Starting with the chassis, Arunkumar used GA rectangular pipes to make the base. The body has been made out of metal and a fabric roof that can be folded down jus lie the original car.

Powering the miniature Jeep is a 24V DC batteries that power an electric motor. It also gets a forward, neutral and reverse gear. The electric motor powers the rear axle of the car through a chain and sprocket system. There is a leaf spring suspension mechanism that he has used from an original Jeep. The attention of the details is so much that the Arunkumar has also used a proper rack and pinion steering system that is widely used in mass-segment cars.

The miniature car also gets LED headlamps, LED fog lamps, indicators, adjustable rear-view mirrors, operational wipers, horn, USB mobile charging, a dedicated first-aid box, USB/memory card slot and many more such features.  There is also an analogue meter from Royal Enfield motorcycle to show the speed.

Arunkumar in a video says that he designed most of the things by himself since these parts are not available in such a small size. He has even designed a special tool kit that is placed under the driving seat and can be used to open the panels of the car.

Anand Mahindra posted the video of the vehicle on Twitter and appreciated the effort. It should be noted that Arunkumar first became popular after he made a small, miniature autorickshaw for his son and daughter a few months ago. The fully functional autorickshaw also had several handmade components. He said that he wanted to gift something to his children and did not want to spend too much money.

In the video he says –

He said, “When I was a nursing officer at Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research, I crafted the model of an SUV for my son. A toy car would cost thousands of rupees. Rather than spending that much money, I decided to make a car. Years later, I made a three-wheeler bike for my daughter, too.” It took as long as 7 months for him to finish building Sundhari.

Arunkumar did not say how much money did he spend to make the Willys model but looking at the details and the features, it can cost a lot in the market.
