The Mitsubishi Outlander SUV has started arriving at Mitsubishi India dealerships across India ahead of its official launch. The 3rd generation Outlander is making its comeback into India after more than 3 years after the previous generation model was discontinued. The new Mitsubishi Outlander is a 7-seat SUV that will square off against competitors, such as the upcoming 7-seat Honda CR-V and the Toyota Fortuner. As for pricing, the Outlander is likely to sit at about Rs. 32 lakhs, ex-showroom Delhi. Bookings for the SUV are now open at Mitsubishi dealerships across India, and the booking amount is pegged at Rs. 50,000.
The 3rd generation Mitsubishi Outlander is a petrol-only model, just like its previous two iterations. The SUV is powered by a 2.4 litre-4 cylinder MIVEC petrol engine with 167 PS of peak power and 222 Nm of peak torque. The gearbox is a CVT automatic unit, which also gets paddle shifters for a sporty feel. This also means that the CVT automatic gearbox will have about 6-7 stepped shifts, similar to what other CVT automatic gearbox-equipped cars, such as the Honda City and Toyota Yaris offer. The new Outlander is significantly larger than the outgoing unit, with dimensions of 4695 mm in length, 1810 mm in width, 1710 mm in height and a 2670 mm wheelbase. Ground clearance stands at 190 mm.
Key features of the new Outlander include a Dual-Zone fully automatic air conditioner, keyless entry with a push start button, electric parking brake with auto hold function, power tilt and sliding sunroof with anti-pinch function, rain-sensing wipers, 7 air bags, ABS + EBD, Active Stability Control (ASC), Hill Start Assist (HSA) and automatic LED head lamps.
The Outlander will be imported into India by Hindustan Motors through the completely knocked down (CKD) kit route. The CKD kits will be assembled into finished cars at Hindustan Motors’ Tiruvallur factory near Chennai. The new Outlander will be Mitsubishi’s second SUV to be available in India, after the Pajero Sport.
