TVS Motors will launch a more powerful version of the Jupiter automatic scooter – a 125cc version. The scooter was spied testing recently. It will have a 125cc engine instead of the 110cc engine. The four stroke engine may also get fuel injection. The 110 cc version of the scooter has a peak power of 8 Bhp. The 125cc version may have around 9 Bhp. It will be a competitor of the Honda Activa 125 and the Suzuki Access 125.

The Jupiter 125 will have a slightly higher price tag. We expect TVS to charge around Rs. 58,000 for the new model. The current prices of the Jupiter 110 range between Rs. 50,051 and Rs. 54,650 depending on the model chosen. Other prominent features expected on the new scooter are alloy wheels and telescopic front suspension. This kind of suspension gives scooters better ability to tackle poor roads in India.

The normal single link suspension oftens bottoms out on such roads. This is why many scooters in India have now started using telescopic front suspension. A disc brake on the front wheel is another feature that the 125cc Jupiter will get. This feature is already available on the 110cc model. It provides better braking and suits scooters with telescopic front forks. The rear suspension will use a gas-charged monoshock.

A Combi braking system (CBS) may be introduced on this scooter when it launches in India. This is because Indian regulations have made CBS mandatory on all two wheelers under 125cc from April 2018. Two wheelers with engine over 125cc will get ABs from April 2018. CBS makes braking more effective and reduces the chances of a skid. It is a low cost safety system that is meant to reduce accidents. Honda is a pioneer in CBS, and now other scooter makers have started implementing it on their products.
