More spacious cars, coming soon: From Hyundai Santro to Maruti Suzuki Ertiga

The interior space a car offers goes on to play a vital role in its success. We have seen some cars failing to impress the Indian car buying lot simply because they weren’t spacious enough. While the cars on the list we have here are already high in space, their upcoming versions will offer even more spacious cabins, thereby giving them a good shot at impressing the car buying lot.

New Hyundai Santro

Hyundai Motors India Limited (HMIL) will launch the all-new Santro in August this year. The next-gen Santro will be based on the first-generation i10’s platform and will be even bigger than the now-defunct hatchback in terms of dimensions. Our sources also reveal that the car will offer class-leading features, which will make its cabin a really nice place to be in. The original Santro won hearts across the country and the next-gen model, which will offer more space, more features, and an AMT option, should repeat the success story of the last-gen car.

New Maruti WagonR

Even the Maruti Wagon R, which is India’s most-loved tallboy, will receive a full model replacement. The next-gen WagonR will be based on the HEARTECT platform, which will make it lighter and hence, more efficient. However, the bigger highlight here is that the next-gen WagonR will offer a seven-seater layout! The enhanced seating capacity will surely help the next-gen WagonR attract a lot more buyers. The current K10 1.0-liter motor will be carried over but will be updated to meet BS6 emission norms. Much like the current car, the next-gen WagonR will offer an optional AMT.

New Honda Amaze

Honda Cars India will soon launch the next-gen Amaze in India. While the original Amaze looks a lot like the Brio, the next-gen model will look somewhat similar to the City. It will also offer more legroom and shoulder room to its occupants. The current-gen Dzire has managed to develop an impressive lead over all its rivals. One of the factors that contribute to the Dzire’s success is its spacious interior. This is exactly where the new Amaze will hit the new Dzire. The current 1.2-liter petrol and 1.5-liter diesel engines will be carried over to the next-gen model. The diesel variant will also get an optional CVT. The additional space that the car will offer, combined with the various other improvements it will come with, should make the Amaze a lot more attractive option than the current version.

Maruti Ertiga

Maruti will launch the next-gen Ertiga this year. The second-generation of the company’s hot-selling MPV will be based on the lightweight HEARTECT platform, which will make it lighter and more efficient. A bigger highlight will be the more space it will offer. The next-gen Ertiga will try to fill the void left behind by the last-gen Innova. To do so, the Ertiga will be positioned in a higher segment. It will offer more space and hence, take on the likes of Renault Lodgy.

Mahindra TUV300 Plus

The TUV300 Plus is a longer version of the regular TUV300. It will offer more space in the third row. It will even have more seats. The regular TUV300 gets a 1.5-litre diesel engine to benefit from the lower excise duty. However, the TUV300 Plus measures more than 4-meters in length and hence, doesn’t require to be powered by a sub-1.5-litre motor. Taking this into account, Mahindra has decided to plonk in the 2.2-liter mHawk turbo-diesel engine that powers the Scorpio. This engine has a maximum power of 120 bhp along with a peak torque of 280 Nm. The motor comes mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox. The extra space on offer should make the TUV300 popular with the fleet operators and cab-owners.

Honda CR-V

Honda Cars India will also launch the all-new CR-V SUV later this year. The new-gen CR-V is larger than the current model and offers three rows of seating. This should give it a better chance of attracting the SUV-buying lot. The new CR-V will launch with both petrol and diesel engine options, which should work in its favor. The diesel engine for the CR-V will displace 1.6-litre and will output 158 Bhp and 350 Nm. The oil burner, along with the third row of seats, should make the CR-V an attractive option to the SUV-buying lot.

Honda Civic

Honda will launch the latest-gen Civic in India by the end of the current financial year. The upcoming Civic will likely come with a 1.8-liter motor that will output a massive 173 bhp. It looks really modern and looks all set to carry forward the legacy of the earlier Civic that was sold in India. The upcoming Civic is more than 100 mm longer than the earlier car. It’s also wider and offers a higher boot space. The higher space on offer should help it attract more buyers.
