Most anticipated car & SUV launches of 2021

There are several launches that became a superhit in the Indian market this year. Cars like the all-new Hyundai Creta, Kia Sonet and even the Mahindra Thar have attracted a large interest from the buyers. However, a few launches were pushed back due to the COVID-19 related lockdown in India. Here are a few vehicles that are highly anticipated and will launch in 2021.

Tata HBX

The all-new micro SUV that was showcased as a concept at the 2020 Auto Expo will be launched in the market next year. Tata calls the vehicle Hornbill internally and it will look very similar to the concept vehicle that was showcased at the Expo. It will be powered only by a 1.2-litre naturally-aspirated petrol engine is likely to get an AMT automatic transmission too. The all-new car is likely to be called as the Timero and will take on the likes of KUV100, Kwid and the Ignis.

Tata Altroz turbo-automatic

Expected launch: January 2021

Tata will launch the most powerful version of the Altroz in the Indian market soon. The manufacturer will launch the Altroz with the 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine with the premium hatchback next year in January. Tata will also add a DCT automatic transmission. Tata Altroz is the only car without an automatic transmission in the segment at the moment.

Tata Gravitas

Expected launch: March 2021

Tata will also launch the 7-seater version of the Harrier in the Indian market. Showcased as the Gravitas at the 2020 Auto Expo, the all-new MPV will take on the Hector Plus head-on. The all-new Gravitas will share the powertrain and transmission option with the Harrier and will also offer a similar feature list. It will become the brand’s most expensive vehicle in the line-up. Tata also plans to re-launch the Hexa next year with BS6 compliant engine.

Mahindra XUV500

Expected launch: March 2021

Mahindra’s all-new XUV500 has almost reached its production form and several spy pictures show the same. The all-new vehicle will look much bulkier than before and will get newly designed front-end and overall body. Just like the other Mahindra vehicles, the XUV500 will come equipped with some advanced features including dual-screen set-up inside the cabin and semi-autonomous driving features. It will be powered by both petrol and diesel engine options.

Skoda Vision IN production

Expected launch: February 2021

Skoda will launch its first vehicle on the India-specific MQB-A0-IN platform next year. It will be the most affordable SUV from the brand in the Indian market and will go against the likes of Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos in the market. The all-new Vision IN will get powered only by petrol engine options. There will be 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol and a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine available with the mid-size SUV.

Hyundai AX1

Expected launch: October 2021

Hyundai is bringing an all-new micro-SUV in the Indian market soon. The car has been spotted testing in South Korea and it will be positioned below Hyundai Venue in the market. Not many details are available on the car but it will be powered by only a petrol engine option. The all-new micro SUV will take on the likes of Ignis, KUV100 and even the upcoming production-version of the HBX.

Toyota Fortuner

Toyota has already started accepting the unofficial bookings for the facelifted version of the Fortuner, that has been launched in the international markets. The front-end of the vehicle gets a lot of changes and it looks more aerodynamic now. It will get the updated 2.8-litre diesel engine that will generate a maximum power of 204 PS and peak torque of 500 Nm.

Toyota Fortuner Legender

Expected launch: Early 2021

Toyota will also launch the more aggressive version of the Fortuner in the market. It will get the same diesel engine that powers the regular Fortuner but it will get a slew of design changes that will make it different on the roads. Also, the Legender will come with dual-tone cabin and it will be available in the top-end trim only.

Renault Kiger

Expected launch: Early 2021

Renault will launch the all-new Kiger based on the Nissan Magnite next year. The sub-4m compact SUV will take on the likes of Hyundai Venue, Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza and the likes. It will be launched with similar engine and transmission options as the Magnite in the Indian market.
