With plenty of options out there, it is a bit difficult for buyers to choose the right car when it comes to interior space. If you are looking for a spacious sedan under Rs. 8 lakh look no further. CarToq has picked the top three most spacious diesel sedans in the price range for you!
Mahindra Verito D2

Price: Rs. 6.18 lakh
The Verito is popular as cabs as it offers plenty of interior space, especially for the rear passengers. The Verito is the widest car in its segment and hence, three passengers can sit comfortably without brushing their shoulders with each other in the rear. Further, the Verito offers an amazing luggage space of 510 litres.
On the down side, the Verito looks boxy, lacks in terms of ergonomics and is hence best suited for those with a chauffeur. Keeping aside these drawbacks, the Verito is a reliable sedan, particularly if you travel frequently with five passengers on board.
The Verito diesel is powered by a 1.5-litre Renault diesel motor that produces 65 Bhp of power and 160 Nm of torque. As per the ARAI, the Verito diesel returns a mileage of 21.03 km/litre. The Verito D2 variant comes with AC with heater, power steering, parcel shelf, spoiler, tachometer, LCD display on instrument cluster.
Toyota Etios GD

Price: Rs. 6.69 lakh
Toyota has cleverly designed the Etios to free up maximum space for passengers. The front seats are thin and hence do not limit the knee room of the rear seat occupants. Further, the nearly flat floor makes the middle passenger in the rear seat, feel comfortable.
Though the shoulder room for the rear seat passengers is not as much as in the Verito, five passengers can easily sit and enjoy long drives in the Etios. Besides, the class leading 595 litres of boot space can easily swallow the luggage of an entire family during long journeys.
The Etios though is not sans shortcomings. The plastic quality looks cheap but is durable. The seats are a bit firm and don’t offer a plush feel. The cabin noise insulation is also not up to the mark. However, apart from these, the Etios is a practical buy.
The Etios diesel is powered by 4-cylinder, D-4D 1,364 cc diesel engine that makes 68 PS of power and 170 Nm of torque and returns ARAI-certified mileage of 23.59 kmpl. The Etios GD variant comes with AC, electric power steering with tilt adjust, central locking and all four power windows.
Tata Manza Aqua

Price: Rs. 6.49 lakh
The Manza truly stands to the Tata’s design philosophy of maximum space for passengers. The Manza offers front seats with adequate all round support. The rear seat offers good under thigh support and sufficient lumbar support too. The legroom is commendable and is at par with the Etios. It also has a 460 litre boot to accommodate most of your luggage.
On the flipside the fit and finish of the Manza falls short given that other cars in its segment such as the Maruti Suzuki Dzire are better in this aspect. The handling of the Manza is also not confidence inspiring and hence, it is best drive this Tata sedan in a sedate manner.
The Manza diesel is powered by 1.3 litre Quadrajet engine that makes 89 Bhp of maximum power and 200 Nm of maximum torque. The ARAI-certified mileage of the Manza is 21.12 kmpl, which is in par with some of the other cars in its segment such as the Verito. The Manza Aqua variant comes with AC with heater, power steering and front power windows.
Summary
Now we have discussed the top four spacious sedans, under Rs. 7 lakh, we take a quick look at other cars in the segment. The Maruti Suzuki Dzire could not make into the top list because, the Dzire has limited shoulder room and hence, it would feel cramped when three passengers sit abreast in its rear seat. The Ford Fiesta Classic also belongs to the diesel sedans below Rs. 7 lakh, but again, it lacks interior space especially for the rear passengers.
