What Kerala’s MVD inspectors have to say about the Tata Nexon EV

Last month, in a ceremony held in Thiruvananthapuram Kerala Motor Vehicle Department received their first batch of 45 Tata Nexon EVs. The Electric SUV has already been distributed distributed to several districts and MVD has already started using it. The Nexon EV was delivered to MVDs almost a month ago and here we have a video that shows how the officers actually feel about this new move and the SUV itself. Tata Nexon EV was launched in the market earlier this year and is currently the cheapest electric SUV one can buy in India. It competes with the likes of MG ZS EV and Hyundai Kona.

The video has been uploaded by Motorhead Girl on their youtube channel. The video starts by sharing the experience of Motor Vehicle Inspector with the Nexon EV. They squad currently uses these vehicles for enforcement duties. The vlogger is seen interviewing an Inspector and he is pretty much impressed with the vehicle. Generally a squad has to be on duty for at least 8 hours and earlier it used to get very tiring because they were driving manual cars. With Nexon EV that issue was solved as it is an automatic SUV. With Nexon EV driver’s ;eft foot is always free and there is no clutch and he doesn’t feel tired even after spending around 8 hours in the car.

The Next benefit is that, it is quite economical in comparison to the ICE vehicles that they were using before. The squad normally would be spending 8 hours and would be covering 75-100 kms during this time. The Inspector says that normally after their rounds at least 50 percent of the charge is left in the vehicle. They simply put it in charge at the station and pick it up next morning.

What Kerala’s MVD inspectors have to say about the Tata Nexon EV

The cabin of the Nexon EV is super silent and there is not engine under the bonnet. The power delivery of the SUV is instant and that helps MVD during emergency situations. The Inspector to whom the vlogger is actually talking in the video was very impressed with the SUV and even said that the chances are high that his next vehicle will be electric.

He even talks about how people were curious to know about the vehicle when they spot them on road.  The vehicle is super silent both on the outside and inside. He even talks about how environment friendly these vehicles actually are and the cost of ownership of this SUV is going to be a lot lesser than a regular petrol and diesel powered car.

Nexon EV is currently the fastest SUV in Tata’s portfolio. It can easily do 0-100 kmph sprint in under 10 seconds. Kerala MVD has selected Nexon EV as part of its ambitious ‘Safe Kerala’ Programme, which focuses on significantly enhancing road safety by reducing traffic offences and addressing all related aspects holistically through mediums such as proper training of drivers, providing safe roads, raising awareness amongst pedestrians, and ensuring effective management of vehicular traffic.

Nexon EV is powered by  Ziptron technology uses a 30.2 KwH high capacity lithium ion battery. This generates 129 Ps and 245 Nm of torque. Tata Nexon has an ARAI certified driving range of 312 kms on full charge. The battery pack has a warranty of 8 years or 1.6 lakh kms. It is available in XM, XZ+ and XZ+ Lux trims. Prices for Nexon EV start at Rs 13.99 lakh, ex-showroom.
