New Amaze helps Honda BEAT Mahindra & become India’s 3rd largest car maker

Japanese car manufacturer Honda Cars India Limited became the third largest manufacturer in India after it overtook Mahindra & Mahindra last month. Honda sold as many as 19,970 units of the cars that helped the brand to reach the third position on the sales charts. Mahindra sold 19,781 units of its vehicles in the same period. Interestingly, domestic sales have seen a decline of 6 per cent in July and the sales of the largest car manufacturer, Maruti, has also dropped for the first time in 19 months.

The last time Honda Car India sold more vehicles than Mahindra was in March 2015. Honda’s latest launch, the Amaze, helped the brand to gain the third position on the leaderboard. The all-new Amaze was first showcased at the 2018 Auto Expo and was launched in May 2018. The sub-4-meter sedan saw a massive demand in the market after it was launched in an all-new avatar.

Rajesh Goel, SVP & Director, Marketing & Sales, Honda Cars India Ltd. said,

“We have recorded our best ever July sales, thanks to the overwhelming response to the All-New Amaze and sustained momentum for City and WR-V. We have been maximizing the supply of new model Amaze in the market to reduce its waiting time”

The all-new Amaze takes on the all-new Maruti Dzire, Hyundai Xcent, Volkswagen Ameo and the Ford Figo Aspire in the Indian market. The Amaze became the highest selling Honda car overtaking the City and WR-V. Last month, it also clocked it highest ever sales since it was introduced in the market. It has accounted for 51 percent of Honda’s total sales in the month of July.

The festive season ahead is expected to further boost the sales of cars in coming times. The sub-4-meter sedan segment has seen a massive rise when it comes to sales. The new-generation Honda Amaze compact sedan is available with both petrol and diesel engine options. Both the engine options are available with a manual transmission and CVT automatic. For the first time ever, Honda introduced a diesel CVT in the affordable segment in India, which is attracting a lot of buyers.
