According to AutocarIndia reports, the base diesel variant will be powered by a 2-litre turbodiesel engine that churns out 175 bhp of maximum power and the higher trim diesel variant will be powered by a 3.0 litre TDI that produces 242 bhp.

The base petrol variant will be powered by a 2.8 litre FSI petrol motor that churns out 201 bhp while the top-end variant will be a 3.0 litre super-charged TFSI making 296 bhp of maximum power.

With regard to prices, the upcoming A6’s price will range between Rs. 37 lakh for the base diesel (2.0 litre) variant to Rs. 47 lakh for the top-end petrol and diesel variants. Thus the new A6 with its aggressive pricing will compete fiercely with the BMW 5 series and the Mercedes-Benz E-Class sedans priced in the same bracket. The new A6 has a low taut roof line, dynamic distinctive lines on the flanks and headlamps with two layers of LED lighting which give the car a sharper look. The new A6 has different dimensions when compared with the current A6 sold in India.

The new A6 measures 4.92 m in length, 1.87 m in width and 1.46 m in height. The new A6 is also taller and has a shorter front overhang. However the wheelbase of the new model is longer than that of the present model.

The yet-to-be launched A6 is as much as 80 kg lighter (depending on the variant) as Audi has used aluminium in the body construction thereby reducing the weight by 15% when compared to the present A6. Many changes such as weight reduction have helped Audi develop a 19% more fuel efficient model of the A6.

The interiors of the new A6 have a wrap-around dashboard and the elegant design of the instrument panel will please the front occupants. The front and rear seats both, offer ample head-leg-shoulder room. The boot space of the new A6 is 530 litres and the suspension links are made of aluminium. Each of the front wheels is guided by five control arms, with self-tracking trapezoidal-link suspension operating at the rear.

The new Audi A6 was unveiled globally last year. Audi claims that the new A6 is the most successful executive saloon in the world, and this is true since the A6’s sales surpassed its rivals like the BMW 5-series and Mercedes-Benz in sales, globally. Also read: Audi A3 India launch possible
