We are in Bangalore to test drive the all-new Honda Amaze. While the official embargo for sharing our review and opinions is till tomorrow evening 6:30pm [27th, Friday], we can surely go ahead and share this walk-around video of the new compact sedan. The Amaze was launched in 2013 and set new benchmarks for the compact sedan market. This second generation model will be launched next month and promises to better the previous version in all areas.
The new Amaze has grown in size slightly, being longer and wider with a wheelbase that has been increased by 65mm to liberate even more passenger space on the inside. The ground clearance has also gone up by 5mm to 170 while the higher versions will get 15-inch alloy wheels, one inch taller than the outgoing model. Honda also claims the cabin has more space for passengers and the boot space has increased by 10%.
The version line-up will be as follows
Petrol Manual: E, S, V, VX
Petrol CVT: S, V
Diesel Manual: E, S, V, VX
Diesel CVT: S, V
The Amaze will continue to be powered by the same petrol and diesel engine options. The 1.2 petrol is good for 90 PS / 110 Nm and will be offered with a choice of a 5 speed manual or a CVT gearbox. The big news is the segment-first offering of an optional CVT automatic transmission with the diesel motor. Though this set-up makes less power (80 PS) and less torque (160 Nm), a CVT transmission will be able to utilise the diesel motor’s linear torque properly. ARAI certified economy stands at 27.4 kmpl for the manual diesel and 23.8 kmpl for the CVT diesel.
The Amaze will lock horns with segment leader Maruti Dzire and Honda is going all guns to promote the new sedan. They also claim to have lower running costs for both petrol and diesel engine options as compared to the Dzire models. We shall bring you our detailed review by tomorrow evening 6:30pm once the embargo lifts off. The video will go online on our Youtube channel at the same time, so do come back for more!
