Hyundai India has silently launched the much awaited i20 facelift, dubbed the ‘iGen i20’ in the price range of Rs. 4.73 lakh – 7.67 lakh.
The new i20 has a refreshed front with newly designed headlamps, radiator grill, clamshell bonnet and fog lamps. The car also gets refreshed taillamps and rear bumper with integrated reflectors.

On the inside, the i20 gets a mildly refreshed cabin with grey-beige dual tone interiors and new features such as a smart key, push button start, rain-sensing wipers, rear disc brakes, auto headlights, rear parking camera and electric folding and heated outside mirrors.
Variants and Prices
The i20 is offered in three engine options: 1.2-litre dual VTVT petrol engine that puts out 84 bhp of power and mated to 5-speed manual transmission, 1.4-litre Gamma petrol engine that puts out 98 bhp of power mated to 5-speed automatic gearbox and a 1.4-litre CRDi diesel that puts out 88 bhp of power and is mated to 6-speed manual transmission.

The Swift is the hottest premium hatchback sold in India. Let’s check out how the new i20 stacks up against the Swift.

With regard to features, the i20 has an edge for it comes with six airbags, push button start, auto headlights, a rear parking camera and electric folding and heated outside mirrors which are not offered in the Swift.
In terms of engine variants, the i20 gets an automatic variant powered by 1.4-litre petrol motor that puts out an impressive 100 PS of power while the Swift comes only in manual variants. Also, the diesel variant of the i20 is powered by 1.4-litre diesel that puts out 88 bhp of power which is 14 bhp more than the Swift diesel which is powered by a 1.3-litre diesel that puts out 74 bhp of power.
However, with regard to mileage the Swift has an edge over the i20, particularly in the diesel variants. The Swift diesel has a claimed mileage of 23.4 kmpl while the new i20 diesel has a claimed mileage of 21.9 kmpl only. The claimed mileage of i20 petrol is 18.5 kmpl which is close to the claimed mileage of Swift petrol (18.6 kmpl). The claimed mileage of the i20 automatic is 15 kmpl. The base petrol variant of Swift is nearly Rs. 29,000 cheaper than the base petrol variant of i20. The top-end variant of Swift is Rs. 97,000 cheaper than the i20 top-end petrol variant.

Conclusion
The i20 will surely attract buyers who are looking for creature comforts and gizmos in a premium hatchback though it is priced at a premium when compared to the Swift.
