New Hyundai Santro bags nearly 15,000 bookings even before launch

Booking frenzies even before the actual vehicle launch are not uncommon in India. The all-new Hyundai Santro is the  latest car to join this booking frenzy list, as nearly 15,000 people have put down deposits for the hatchback. The  car will be launched in India on the 23rd of October, and bookings opened on the 8th. Notably, the first 50,000  people to book the Santro will get the car at a special, introductory prices.

If leaked prices are to be believed, the new Hyundai Santro’s prices will start from Rs. 3.87 lakhs for the base  model, going up to Rs. 5.35 lakhs for the Magna CNG trim. Yes, the new Santro will also be available in CNG-Petrol  dual fuel trim in specific markets of India. The engine is a 1.1 liter-4 cylinder petrol unit with 69 PS-99 Nm on  tap. While running on CNG, this engine will make 57 Bhp-77 Nm.

A 5 speed manual gearbox will be standard while Hyundai – for the first time ever – will offer an automated manual  transmission (AMT) option. The AMT unit – developed in house – will feature electrical actuators instead of  mechanical ones, and this is said to give it better durability. Fuel efficiency of the new Santro is rated at 20.3  Kmpl, which makes the new Santro less efficient than competition – the Maruti WagonR, Celerio, and the Tata Tiago.

The Santro will get a couple of segment leading features. One is the rear AC blower while the other is a touchscreen infotainment unit with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. A driver airbag and ABS will be standard across trims. Higher trims will add a passenger airbag. The car will also get reverse parking sensors and a parking camera on the top-end trim.

The car has already begun reaching Hyundai dealerships across India. Deliveries are expected to begin right from the day of launch, which happens to be day after tomorrow.
