New Hyundai Santro launch timeline officially REVEALED

Puneet Anand, senior general manager (marketing), Hyundai Motor India Limited, said,

“The Onam festival season was a dampener for PV makers due to floods in Kerala. The industry lost out on sales of nearly 32,000 vehicles. September sales are likely to remain low as well due to new insurance regulations and shradh period. We can expect the growth to be back from October onwards. There is growth momentum in the PV market. We have a new car launch in October. It will get us new customers and add to our sales”.

Last week, Bollywood actor and Hyundai’s long time brand ambassador, Shahrukh Khan, revealed that the new entry level car would be called the Santro. We expect Hyundai to add a suffix to the new Santro, like it has done in the past with the Santro ZipDrive and the Santro Xing models.

The exact suffix accompanying the new Santro badge will be revealed in early October, when the car is officially unveiled during the media drives. The new Santro will be a tall-boy hatchback like the original model, and is expected to be pegged in the Rs. 3-4 lakh price bracket.

At these price points, the new Hyundai Santro will take on vehicles, such as the Tata Tiago, and the higher variants of the Renault Kwid and Maruti Alto. Hyundai has clearly indicated that the new car would be much larger than the Eon, and will eventually replace the Eon in the Indian market.

A 1.1-litre petrol engine is likely to power the new car, and a five-speed manual gearbox will be standard. The car will also get a 5-speed automated manual transmission – a first for Hyundai in India. Petrol, LPG-petrol and CNG-petrol fuel options are likely to be on offer.
