Mahindra Thar is still one of the most popular 4×4 SUVs in Indian market. Ever since its launch in India we have seen several videos where the SUV is seen doing off-roading. The main reason behind its popularity are the rugged looks, off-road capabilities and attractive price. It is still one of the most affordable 4×4 SUV one can buy in India. The video has been uploaded by thar_bengaluru on Instagram. In this video, a current generation Mahindra Thar is seen coming down a rocky descent. We have seen several off-road videos of Mahindra Thar but, this is probably one of the most challenging ones. In this video, we can see how carefully the Thar driver is following the instructions of the spotter while coming down the rocky descent. It is actually not a track. There are couple of boulders and the driver has to safely drive the SUV down without getting stuck or toppling.

With clear instructions from the spotter, Thar driver slowly drives the SUV down while giving necessary inputs to steering. It looks like, the rocky descend was one of the obstacles in the track and organisers decided to use the same to explore off-road capability of the SUV. Surprisingly, the Mahindra Thar seen here in the video looks in stock condition. The front grille, alloy wheels are all stock. It is actually a rare sight as most of the Mahindra Thar owner replace the stock grille and alloys with aftermarket units. In this video, it is clear that Mahindra Thar even in its stock form is a very capable SUV. Even minor modifications can enhance the overall off-road experience with the SUV.
The approach, departure and breakover angle in the stock Mahindra Thar is apt for off-roading. This is an SUV which has been built with off-roading in mind. It is actually a very tricky descend as even a minor error would make the SUV stuck. It can even topple after the vehicle looses balance. As seen in this video, the even has been organised by a group of Thar owners and is a group activity. One must never attempt to do such stunts when they are driving the SUV alone. Without proper input from the spotter, there is no way that the driver would be able to drive the SUV down the rocky descend without damaging the car.
In case the SUV gets stuck there will be back up or recovery vehicles with proper recovery equipment to help the stuck Thar. It is for all these reasons why we recommend people to go off-roading in groups. Mahindra Thar is available in both petrol and diesel engine options. Both the engine options get manual and automatic transmission options. 4×4 is offered as a standard feature in both petrol and diesel engine options of Mahindra Thar.
