The teaser video shows us the Celerio in Speedy Blue and Solid Fire Red shade. The teaser video also says that the Celerio is now the most fuel-efficient car available in our country. We are expecting it to deliver a fuel efficiency of around 26 kmpl. This is possible because of the new engine that Maruti Suzuki is using.
It is still a 1.0-litre, naturally aspirated unit. It now comes with DualJet technology that we first saw on Baleno. The engine now uses two fuel injectors per cylinder instead of one. This helps in more precise fueling and the engine runs more efficiently. It will also come with idle start/stop which means that when the car comes to a halt, for instance, waiting at a traffic signal, the engine would automatically shut down. This helps in saving fuel. The engine will be slightly more powerful and will be offered with a 5-speed manual gearbox or a 5-speed AMT.
Design
The design of the Celerio is also all-new. It no longer uses the tall boy design that we have seen on vehicles like Hyundai Santro and Maruti Suzuki WagonR. Due to this, the 2021 Celerio looks more modern and like a conventional hatchback. There is an all-new grille in the front with a chrome slat and new headlamps that have a smoked surround. There is also a new bumper and fog lamp housing.
At the side, you get conventional body-coloured door handles, LED turn indicators on outside rearview mirrors and blacked-out alloy wheels on the top-end variant. At the rear, the tail lamps are all-new but they still do not use LEDs. In fact, Maruti Suzuki is not using LED lighting elements for the headlamps too. There is a rear wiper with a washer and a high mounted stop lamp. Maruti Suzuki has also redesigned the rear bumper.
Cabin
The manufacturer has also made changes to the cabin of the Celerio. It comes with a three-spoke multi-function steering wheel, a 7-inch SmartPlay touchscreen infotainment system that supports Android Auto and Apple CarPlay and manual air conditioning with a heater. The instrument cluster has been borrowed from the WagonR. So, there is an analogue speedometer with a digital display that shows the tachometer, fuel gauge and much more.
