Maruti Suzuki dealers have begun accepting bookings for the all-new Ertiga MPV, due for launch next month. However, these bookings are unofficial and Maruti is yet to announce the opening of pre-bookings for the new MPV. Meanwhile, here are a couple of uncamouflaged pictures of the new Ertiga.
As the spyshots indicate, the nw Maruti Ertiga that will be launched here will be similar to the one that’s already on sale in Indonesia. The second generation MPV that will be sold in India will be offered with two engines and two transmission options.
While the petrol engine is a new unit, the diesel engine is a carryover from the older Ertiga, which will continue to be produced but only for the cab market. The new petrol engine is the 1.5 liter K-Series unit that debuted in the facelifted Ciaz. This motor makes 104 PS-138 Nm, making it more powerful than the 1.4 liter unit it replaces.
The petrol engine of the Ertiga will be offered with 5 speed manual and 4 speed torque converter automatic gearbox options. The diesel engine is the 1.3 liter Fiat Multijet unit with 89 Bhp-200 Nm on tap. A 5 speed manual gearbox will be offered with the diesel engine as standard. All variants of the new Ertiga will be front wheel driven.
A new diesel engine is said to be in the works. The in-house motor is expected to be offered in the new Ertiga after a year. Notably, both the petrol and diesel engines of the new Ertiga will receive the Suzuki Hybrid Vehicle System (SHVS) mild hybrid system.
The new Maruti Ertiga shares the HEARTECT platform with the likes of the Swift and Dzire. Apart from totally revised styling, the new MPV is longer and wider than the older model but the wheelbase remains the same. However, it’s likely to be lighter thanks to the new platform, which uses light weight, high tensile steel.
The lightness of the new MPV is expected to make it more fuel efficient while also offering better acceleration. The new Ertiga will get twin airbags and ABS as standard across the range. It’ll retain a 7 seat layout, and prices are expected to start from around Rs. 6.5 lakhs for the base variant.
