It has by now become fairly well-known that Maruti Suzuki India Ltd, the largest-selling car manufacturer in India, is busy readying an all-new Ertiga for the Indian market. A new report on the upcoming MPV claims that the new car will launch sometime in August this year. It may be noted here that the current-generation Ertiga has been on sale since 2012. It got a mid-cycle refresh in 2015. While the Ertiga has been in huge demand right from the day of its launch, an all-new model should help the company find some more buyers.
The second-generation Maruti Suzuki Ertiga (codename: YHA) has already been spied testing on many occasions. While the test mules have been under a heavy camouflage, seen above is an artistic render based on the few details that people have managed to make out. There are really good chances of the new MPV being both longer and wider than the current version. As observed from the sightings, the rear overhang is now much longer, which means the car could even offer a more spacious interior. Also, the car seems to have larger alloy wheels and a more prominent beltline. The front-end will look bolder due to an in-your-face grille and a higher stance.
The increase in dimensions, along with the higher cabin space, is likely to help Maruti get some more buyers. It’s noteworthy that there exists quite a huge gap between the Ertiga and the Innova Crysta in the fast-growing MPV segment of our country’s car market. MPVs like the Renault Lodgy haven’t found much favor from the buyers and hence, Maruti can plug in this gap with the new-generation Ertiga. There are good chances of the current set of engines being carried over to the next-gen model. The ingeniously developed 1.5-litre Diesel engine from Suzuki will likely come in at a later stage. The new Ertiga will help Maruti take on the likes of the upcoming Mahindra U321 MPV.
