New Maruti Swift starts reaching dealerships across India

Maruti Suzuki has started dispatching the 2018 all-new Swift hatchback to dealerships around India. Swift hatchbacks in multiple colours have been spotted at a dealer yard. The car will be launched in early February, at the 2018 Auto Expo, and prices will be revealed at the time of launch.

Customer deliveries will also begin only after the launch, between February 7th and 9th. Dealers around the country have started accepting bookings for the car for Rs. 11,000 – a refundable deposit that will be adjusted with the final on road price of the car.

Sure the new car looks quite different from the old model but the 2018 Swift has multiple changes that go beyond looks. For one, it is based on the HEARTECT platform that is also used by cars such as the new Dzire and the Baleno. The HEARTECT platform uses high-tensile, light weight steel and this reduces the 2018 Swift’s weight by about 90 kilograms. Apart from the lower weight, the new model also gets automatic transmission options on both petrol and diesel engine models. This will make the new Swift more desirable to a larger crowd of buyers.

Apart from these mechanical changes, the interiors of the car also get a major makeover. The dashboard is all-new, with new instrumentation, a center console and the SmartPlay touchscreen infotainment system with support for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

The car also gets reupholstered seats with scooped out seat-backs that liberate more leg-room for rear passengers. Maruti has also increased the wheelbase of the car by 20 mm even though overall length is actually shorted by 20 mm. The boot space has also been increased by 20 %, and these changes indicate that the new Swift has improved over the outgoing model in almost every department.
