Maruti Suzuki has announced that the bookings for the all-new WagonR are now open. Customers can now pay Rs. 11,000 towards the booking and the deliveries are expected to start from the 23rd January when the prices are announced. Maruti Suzuki has released an official video which reveals the upcoming hatchback completely.
The all-new WagonR is based on the lightweight HEARTECT platform, which makes the hatchback stronger and lighter than the current generation WagonR. The exteriors that have been revealed shows the Maruti Suzuki WagonR’s exteriors from all the sides. It gets a new headlamp with a kink and a thin chrome grille. Overall, the all-new WagonR retains its tall boy stance and gets a floating roof effect due to the black insert in the C-Pillar. The all-new WagonR also gets new, much taller headlamps, which are designed like the ones we see on the Volvo vehicles.
The all-new Maruti Suzuki WagonR is bigger in size than the current version of the model too. It is 35mm longer and as much as 125mm wider than the current version of the hatchback. On the inside, the WagonR is much more spacious and gets a long list of standard features. It will get three trim levels – LXi, VXi and ZXi and all of them get driver-side airbag, ABS+EBD, speed warning, seat belt reminder and rear parking sensor. The top-end variants will also get an additional co-driver side airbag.
For the first time ever, Maruti Suzuki will offer SmartPlay touchscreen infotainment system with the Maruti Suzuki WagonR. It will be a 7.0-inch unit with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity. The steering is also new and gets mounted controls for the infotainment system and answer the connected smartphone.
Maruti Suzuki will offer the all-new WagonR with two engine options. There will be the good old 1.0-litre, three-cylinder engine that generates a maximum of 68 Bhp in the current version of the WagonR. Maruti will also introduce the 1.2-litre four-cylinder petrol engine that is available with the likes of Maruti Suzuki Swift and Ignis. The engine develops around 83 Bhp. However, Maruti may re-tune the engine for more fuel efficiency.
Due to the use of the HEARTECT platform, the Maruti Suzuki WagonR will lose around 60 kg of weight, which will make it more fuel efficient and a better performing car. Both the engine options will be offered with an AMT automatic transmission.
Maruti is also expected to increase the price of the variants by around Rs. 40,000-60,000 with the update. The exact price will be announced on the 23rd January and it will take on the Hyundai Santro head-on in the market. The Maruti Suzuki WagonR can be booked across all the authorised dealerships across India and customers can also book it online. The deliveries of the new WagonR are expected to begin right from the day of launch. Maruti has already begun dispatching the WagonR to dealerships across the country.
