The City has been facing the heat from its rivals who have a better proposition for buyers with their diesel offering and thus taking away market share from the City. Volkswagen sold 6,839 units of the Vento while Honda managed to sell only 4,314 units of the City in March-April 2011. This trend continued in May as the City’s sales were left further behind (It sold only 1,828 units while the Vento sold 2,403 units). Also read: Honda slashes prices of Honda City by up to Rs.66,000

CarToq had earlier reported that the Volkswagen Vento had outshined the Honda City in terms of sales and now the new Hyundai Fluidic Verna too is eating away its market share. Whether the reduced prices will enable City to regain its position as a segment leader will be known in the next couple of months but it should definitely help Honda stop losing more market share to its rivals.
