Renault has quietly introduced an upgraded version of the Renault Duster in petrol as well, given that the demand for petrol vehicles is slowly coming back. The Renault Duster RXL petrol now comes with an option pack that includes two airbags, ABS, EBD and parking sensors. The Renault Duster RXL petrol with safety pack is priced at about Rs. 9.6 lakh ex-showroom (exact prices are awaited). Price on-road Mumbai is Rs. 11.2 lakh.
So far Renault had only two variants in the petrol line up, the base RXE petrol and the mid-variant RXL petrol. The RXL petrol did not have ABS or airbags, and only offered the other standard features such as rear wiper, defogger, integrated music system with Bluetooth, steering-mounted audio controls, fog lamps and power mirrors. It does not offer alloy wheels.
Although Renault India hasn’t issued an official statement about this variant’s availability, two dealerships – one in Mumbai and one in Bangalore have confirmed this variant’s availability and are even promising delivery within 10 days to a CarToq reader.
The Renault Duster RXL petrol with airbags and ABS appears to be a variant introduced to battle the onslaught of the Ford EcoSport. The Ford EcoSport Titanium and Titanium Plus Ecoboost petrol variants have seen fairly decent demand, going to show that there is still some latent demand for petrol-powered SUVs. The Renault Duster RXL petrol is powered by a 1.6 litre (1598 cc) petrol engine that puts out 102 bhp of power at 5850 rpm and 145 Nm of torque at 3750 rpm. It is mated to a five-speed manual transmission with front-wheel drive. The advantage a vehicle like the Renault Duster has over other cars in its price category is the huge ground clearance of 210 mm. This gives it an advantage for rough roads and flooded out roads, as many owners have found during the recent monsoons. It also has good ride quality and decent levels of interior space and boot space compared to sedans, and a whole lot more compared to the Ford EcoSport. However, even with the airbags and ABS, the Renault Duster RXL petrol with safety option pack is still priced nearly Rs. 1.5 lakh to Rs. 2 lakh more than the Ford EcoSport petrol variants. Do you think it’s worth considering?
