Suzuki has released a set of official images of the new Jimny ahead of the SUV’s public debut in Japan later this year. These new images reveal almost all the details of the new car’s exterior and interior. Here is a complete gallery of the images of the all-new Suzuki Jimny –
As confirmed by these images, the new Jimny gets a really rugged and a slightly retro exterior design that makes the car look a bit like the original Mercedes Benz G Class SUV.
The new Jimny’s front-end is characterized by a rugged-looking, non-painted front bumper that carries round foglamps. Even the front grille is black and has five Jeep-like vertical slats. The grille cover encompasses the round headlamps and the round indicators. This gives the new Jimny a very retro touch. Thanks to the in-your-face look and the high ground clearance, the Jimny ends up offering a very bold front look.
The boxy proportions continue to the side profile. The new Jimny gets bold plastic cladding that gives the SUV a more rugged look. The front-windows have a kink towards the A-pillar while the rear ones are square-ish. The car gets attractive alloy wheels. As revealed by these images, the Jimny will likely offer a black roof wrap, at least as an option.
The boxy look continues to the rear. The tail lamps are housed in the rear bumper and the spare wheel has been mounted on the third door.
The interior seems to take many bits from the new Swift. The steering has a similar design but isn’t a flat-bottom unit. The instrument binnacle has a resemblance with the one you can find on the India-spec Gypsy. The Jimny gets a long gear lever. A quick look is enough to note that there’s a priority for function over form.
In spite of the slightly utilitarian touch, there’s enough to give this cabin a modern touch. You get the same Smartplay touchscreen infotainment unit that’s available on the Swift. It supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The HVAC controls seem to have been taken from the Swift hatchback. The features list will include cruise control, autonomous emergency braking with pedestrian detection, ABS, and dual front airbags.
The new Jimny boasts a ladder-on-frame chassis. The new SUV also gets a three-link rigid axle suspension. A four-wheel drive with low range transfer gear will be offered. In all probability, the new Jimny will be powered by the 1.0-litre three-cylinder turbocharged Boosterjet and 1.2-litre, four-cylinder, naturally-aspirated petrol engines. Maruti Suzuki is yet to make an official statement regarding the Jimny’s India launch. We believe that the latest Jimny could be a great replacement for the highly dated Gypsy.
