The Volkswagen Group earlier this year announced that they were planning to bring six new models into India under the Volkswagen and Skoda brands and announced a huge investment of Rs 7,800 crore into India. In this post, we take a look at 5 new Volkswagen and Skoda cars and SUVs that we can expect in the next few years from Skoda and VW.

Skoda Karoq

In May 2017, Skoda unveiled the Karoq, its replacement for the quirky and fun Yeti crossover SUV. Production on the Karoq started later that year and since then the SUV has become quite popular in international markets like Europe, where it is produced.

Skoda will launch the Karoq in India next year and will bring the SUV into India as completely knocked down (CKD) kits. the Skoda Karoq will be assembled at the Czech carmaker’s Aurangabad facility and will use the same 2.0-litre TFI diesel engine found on its larger sibling the Kodiaq. In the Karoq, the engine is expected to produce 148 Bhp and 320 Nm of torque and should come paired with the VW group’s 7-speed DSG twin-clutch automatic gearbox.

Volkswagen will reveal the new Vento sedan in India in 2021. The new Vento sedan will be based on the VW group’s MQB A0 platform which was developed for emerging markets like Brazil and India.

The new Rapid is expected to ditch the 1.5-litre diesel engine as making the engine meet new BS-VI emission norms will make it very expensive. Instead, the new Vento will draw power from a new 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine which is expected to produce around 115 Bhp and 200 Nm of torque. The engine is expected to come paired to both manual and twin-clutch automatic transmission options.

New Skoda Rapid

The new Skoda Rapid, like its sister car, the Volkswagen Vento will be launched in an all-new form in India in 2021. Like the current Rapid, it will share the same MQB A0 platform and 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine as the new Vento.

However, Skoda is expected to make the difference between the Rapid and the new Vento quite clear when it comes to design and should offer more features at a lower price compared to its VW sibling.

Volkswagen T-Roc

Volkswagen put the Golf-based T-Roc SUV into production last year and it is currently on sale in quite a few countries around the world. The Volkswagen T-Roc brings with it a striking design and will sit under the Tiguan in W’s India portfolio.

The T-Roc from Volkswagen is expected to arrive in India in 2020 and will come packed with a host of features. The T-Roc SUV is expected to be powered by Volkswagen’s 2.0-litre TDI diesel engine when it arrives on the roads of the subcontinent at the start of the next decade.

Skoda compact SUV

Skoda will be leading the VW group charge in India. The first new vehicle expected to come from the Czech manufacturer as part of the VW group’s push with the MQB A0 platform will be a compact 5-seater SUV that will rival the Hyundai Creta when it arrives in the early 2020s.

The new compact Skoda SUV is expected to be the same size as VW’s T-Cross SUV that is currently being developed but will take its styling cues from current Skoda SUVs like the Kodiaq and Karoq. The new compact Skoda SUV is expected to draw power from the VW Group’s 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine and could ditch diesel power when it does arrive in India.
