Update: The all-new wagonR blue-eyed boy is launched!

The new Maruti wagonR will be launched on 23rd April, and the major change is the introduction of the new K-Series engines. K-series engines have already found their way to a number of small cars from Maruti.

As you can see from the photos here, Maruti Suzuki has also gone ahead and made some design chances to the WagonR. The WagonR was getting a bit jaded, lookswise, as newer and more stylish small cars were launched in the last few months. But apart from that, the little tallboy car always had a fan following – for its size, it was always a spacious car, and Maruti had its rock-solid reputation for reliability. And now there is a spadeful of style added on. Sweet. Even without the side skirts, it looks clearly better than the current WagonR for sure.

The high-end WagonR would now also have a body kit which you can see in the pics here. Remember that the WagonR sold in Japan was always high on style – and this one reminds us of the Japanese WagonR.

The new WagonR’s K-Series 1000 cc engine is the same as that on the new A-Star and Estilo, and produces 67 bhp and offers a 5-speed manual transmission. Fuel efficiency has gone up, and ‘mileage’ is now at almost 19 kmpl according to Maruti Suzuki. The K-Series engine change was undertaken as this was a BS IV emission norms compliant engine.

Interiors have undergone a change too, and it is not a drab place anymore inside with a redesigned center console, a new audio system, steering wheel and dials.

We are a bit safety obsessed here at DWS AutoIndia, and we definitely applaud the introduction of SRS airbags and ABS on the new K-series WagonR.

Who should buy the new Maruti WagonR, then? Well, if you trust Maruti Suzuki more than any other brand in India for its reliability and after sales service, you already know the answer. If you want to wait and see how the car actually fares on the road and how it is to live with, wait for our full-fledged Maruti WagonR road test after the car is launched.
