Automotive enthusiasts are obsessed with 0-100 km/h times of vehicles, as it is the measure of how quick a vehicle actually is. Well, recently, breaking the record of the previous quickest time of 0-100 km/h, a team of students from Zurich, Switzerland, has created an EV racecar that managed to do 0-100 km/h in just 0.0956 seconds. Yes, you heard that right, 0-100 km/h in less than a second. This record has smashed the previous record of 1.46 seconds by a massive gap of 0.504 seconds.
A video of behind-the-scenes of this mind-bending record has been shared on YouTube by ETH Zurich on their channel. The video presents the behind-the-scenes of the team working on the car on the day of the record attempt. The video highlights the efforts of the team members preparing their extremely light EV racecar for the record. The video provides interviews and thoughts of the team leader and the female driver, Kate Magettii. The extremely light EV racecar can be seen zooming past the start line in the record-breaking video.

As mentioned, the record was broken because of the efforts of the team of students from ETH Zurich. It was done by these students in partnership with students from Lucerne University of Applied Sciences in Switzerland. Together, the students managed to set a new acceleration record for EVs. The entire team created a fully hand-built electric race car, which was named the Mythen, a mountain in the Schwyzer Alps of Central Switzerland.
This impressive racecar created the new record by going from 0-100 km/h (62.15 mph) in just 0.956 seconds. It has been reported by ETH Zurich that this record has been officially affiliated by the Guinness World Records. It has been confirmed that the Mythen broke the previous world acceleration record for electric vehicles. As mentioned above, the previous record was held by a team called Foerderverein GreenTeam Uni Stuttgart e.V., which designed an EV that reached 100 km/h (62 mph) from a standstill in 1.461 seconds on September 23, 2022. In the video, a team member mentioned that with this new attempt, they wanted to bring back the record from Stuttgart to Zurich.
Mythen, as stated, is an all-electric racecar which has been designed and developed by the Academic Motorsports Club Zurich (AMZ). According to the students from ETH Zurich, this one-of-a-kind racecar weighs just 140 kgs (309 pounds). The students reported that this incredible feat of light weightiness was achieved due to extensive use of carbon and aluminum honeycomb. It was also stated that each wheel of this incredible racecar received its own motor for a total system output of about 326 hp (243 kW).
To the untrained eye and non-automotive enthusiasts, it may seem like that is not an impressive power figure. However, it has to be kept in mind that more than the absolute power figures, a vehicle’s speed and performance depend upon its power-to-weight ratio. This ratio, as the name suggests, is a ratio between the power and the total weight of a car. When a vehicle is extremely light, even a small amount of power can propel it from a standstill to mind-bending speeds in just a few seconds. This is exactly what each and every hypercar and supercar manufacturer chases.
