The 2014 New York International Auto Show (NYIAS) kicks off on the 16th of April and the motoring spectacle could have more than some significance for the Indian car market. Two major unveils could happen at New York in the form of the revamped Chevrolet Cruze sedan and the all-new 2015 Beat hatchback, which is known as the Spark in that part of the world.

Updated versions of both these cars could hit the Indian market in the next year or so as General Motors is facing slow sales here, on the back of a product portfolio that has fallen way behind competition when it comes to the excitement factor. However, General Motors will stick to refreshed versions of existing cars and new variants for the next 2-3 years in India.
A few days ago, images of the revamped 2015 Chevrolet Cruze sedan leaked out to the interweb. The leaks indicated a heavily modified Cruze with front and rear end designs bearing striking resemblance to Hyundai cars. The interiors of the car showed a big revision too. It remains to be seen whether the Cruze spotted at the Chinese factory of SAIC-GM is a China-only model or whether a similarly styled car will be sold in other parts of the world. In terms of engines, the Cruze is likely to retain its turbo petrol and turbo diesel motors while the feature seat could see a slew of additions to make the revamped Cruze more appealing than before.

Coming to the all-new 2015 Chevrolet Beat, the car is expected to retain its tall boy form factor, albeit with design changes. Heavy revisions on the front and rear fascias may be expected, along with the re-positioning of the door handles on the rear doors. The car is likely to continue in three door and five door forms. As the Beat/Spark’s all-new model will go on sale only from the middle of 2015, the car is likely to be showcased in concept form at New York. In India, General Motors sells the Beat (Spark in the USA) in petrol, diesel and LPG forms. The B-Segment hatchback just got a facelift recently and the all-new model isn’t expected until late 2015.
