Hyundai has recently unveiled the new Santro and going by the first impression we had, it seems to be a pretty good value proportion. New reports suggest that the company is all set to bring in two more vehicles that will be based on the Santro platform. The upcoming vehicles will most probably be the compact SUV codenamed QXi (Styx) and the new generation Grand i10.
To be more precise, the Santro is underpinned by an all new K1 platform. It is reportedly derived from Kia’s SA architecture and is 63% more rigid than the previous platforms. This will help in getting a better crash safety test rating and the cars would meet the upcoming BNSVAP standards.
The Hyundai-Kia jointly developed platform has already many cars underpinning it globally, with Santro being the latest addition to the list. Also, Hyundai plans to develop all future sub-four meter cars based on the K1 platform only as it is light weight, rigid, and is versatile enough to don various body styles of varied size and shape.

The next=generation Hyundai Grand i10 has already begun testing on Indian roads. The new Hyundai Grand i10 will be launched late next year. It will rival the Maruti Swift, and is expected to be sold with petrol and turbocharged diesel engines.
With the Santro already getting huge amount of bookings, Hyundai is eyeing over 30% business share over the compact cars segment, which includes hatchbacks, sedans and SUVs. The QXi concept was first shown during the 2016 Delhi Auto Expo and we have earlier reported that it will be named as Hyundai Styx.
It is a sub four meter compact SUV that will lock horns with the likes of Tata Nexon and Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza when launched. Also, the second generation Hyundai Xcent compact sedan will most likely be based on the new K1 platform. However, it will not come before 2020 and upon arrival, will catch up with the Tata Tiago and Maruti Suzuki DZire among others.
As for Hyundai’s near future plans, the company is all set to unveil the Kona Electric SUV in 2019 which will then be followed by the facelifted Tucson compact SUV and probably a new version of the Santa Fe. The company is already has the second biggest share in the market after Maruti and it seems like it will give Maruti a tough fight in near future.
