The current third-generation Swift is the third best-selling vehicle from the entire portfolio of cars that the country’s largest carmaker Maruti Suzuki India Limited offers in India. Although it has been out for some time now and it’s now starting to show its age. Hence it’s due for a major generation change and in the last few months, several test mules around the international markets have been spotted testing. Based on these test mules a few renderings have also been created and some of these rendered images of the forthcoming fourth gen swift have also surfaced online.
From the looks of it, the front of the new car looks to be a lot more aggressive than the current outgoing model. Instead of a hexagonal with a chrome divider in the middle like the outgoing model, the forthcoming car will feature a larger octagonal grille with a honeycomb pattern and a small Suzuki insignia. The hatchback will also feature an all-new bonnet along with a set of newly designed headlamps. It will also get boomerang-shaped housing for the fog lamps and will also get a small black lower section in the middle of the bumper.
On the sides, the popular silhouette of the Swift will be retained but it will feature a lot sharper lines than the previous generations. The car will also most likely get a new and bigger set of alloy wheels and its upper half could also be offered in gloss black. The forthcoming Swift will also get a revised rear bumper with a new design for the LED taillamps. Dimensionally, according to a leaked Japanese picture it could measure in at 3950 mm in length, 1720 mm in width and 1500 mm in height and it could also have around 2500 mm in wheelbase. The overall weight of the car will be around 930 kgs.
On the interior side of things there is not much that has been reported so far but we can expect a revamp of the dashboard and its layout. It will most likely get all the creature comforts that are offered in the outgoing Baleno hatchback. Meanwhile one of the most notable features that could make its debut on the new Swift will be the offering of ADAS (advanced driver assistance system). The company will bring this model in the five door format in India although for international markets the car will also be offered in a three door iteration as well.
In terms of the drivetrain side of things Maruti Suzuki is said to be working on a strong hybrid powertrain for the next-generation Swift hatchback, and is looking to eke out a mileage between 35-40 Kmpl. It has been reported that the upcoming hatchback could come equipped with an entirely new 1.2-liter petrol engine (codenamed Z12E), which, in contrast to the present K12C engine, will be a three-cylinder unit rather than a four-cylinder engine. It will be coupled with a variation of the powerful hybrid technology from Toyota that we’ve previously seen in the Grand Vitara and Urban Cruiser Hyryder, both of which are presently being significantly localised in India for an even more affordable price.
