Maruti has started testing the next-generation WagonR hatchback in India. The car is expected to be launched here next year. Based on the spyshots of the car being tested, CarToq’s rendering artist has put together a couple of renders of the all-new WagonR.
The render shows that Maruti will retain most of the design highlights of the current WagonR in the new model. This means the tall-boy hatchback design, large glass area all around and a narrow body. The car will get a completely revamped front end.
The headlamps, grille and bumpers are major changes on the all-new car. The 2019 WagonR is also expected to get some weight reduction. This should translate into better performance and fuel economy, making the already-loved car even more attractive to people looking for an affordable, no-nonsense hatchback.
The 1 liter K-Series petrol engine with a 3 cylinder layout will be retained. This engine makes 67 Bhp and 90 Nm presently, and don’t expect significant revisions to power and torque figures in the new model as well. Two transmissions are likely to be offered – a 5 speed manual and an AMT.
Like the present WagonR, the new model will have petrol, CNG and LPG fuel options. CNG and LPG models will not be offered nationwide though. They’ll only be offered in those markets where there’s a demand for such cars. The new WagonR will meet BNVSAP safety norms and is also expected to be offered with ABS and twin airbags as an option across models, including the vase variants.
The car will get new interiors with advanced infotainment features. However, the basic layout of the dashboard is expected to be the same. The car will be made ready to accept hybrid and electric powertrains in future. Like the present model, the new WagonR is expected not to feature a diesel engine option.
