Next-Generation Hindustan Ambassador: What it could look like

Hindustan Ambassador has become a legendary automobile, it needs no introduction.  It was on sale for a very long time but the production had to end because the sales were down and various other regulations and emission norms were implemented. But, what if Ambassador makes a comeback into the Indian market. Well, here we have a render of how the Ambassador might look like if it is relaunched.

The rendering is done by Amol Satpute and the pictures are shared on his Instagram.  Amol has done a great job in doing the render of the Ambassador. It looks modern and still retains some of its iconic design elements.

Artist has used a similar shaped grille but it has been given a modern look with floating dots. We used to get a similar design on the Mercedes-AMG models. There are circular headlamps on the sides while the main LED Daytime Running Lamp sits above. So, it can be called a split-headlamp setup. The headlamps are placed very low so the car does not need a pair of fog lamps.

The bonnet is very long and the wheel arches bulge out which gives a muscular look to the render. There are multi-spoke blacked-out alloy wheels that have a chrome surround.  There is a small chrome strip on the front fender and another strip that runs in the lower section of the door.

Overall, the side profile is quite interesting because the roof portion is finished in chrome. This gives a floating roof effect to the car. The rear of the render is quite unique because the boot area comes down abruptly. So, it might look a bit weird at first.

There are vertical tail lamps just like we used to get on the original Ambassador. However, they are now using LED elements. There is a chrome surround that runs around the boot and Ambassador lettering is spelt out on the tailgate. The bumper also gets a faux diffuser like design. Interestingly, the rear window design is very similar to the Ambassador.

The artist has not rendered the interior but we can expect it to also look modern just like the exterior looks. Overall, the artist has done a very good job. However, it is important to note that the rendering was done based on artists’ imagination. As of now, the Groupe PSA owns Ambassador, they bought it in 2017 for Rs. 80 Crores. There were some rumours that Peugeot or Citroen might bring back the Ambassador. However, nothing is confirmed as of now.

Peugeot is not operating in the Indian market. Citroen did enter our country with the C5 Aircross. Now, they are working on launching a new vehicle which will be called the C3. It is a jacked-up hatchback and will go against the Maruti Suzuki Ignis, Mahindra KUV100 and Tata Punch. Citroen C3 will launch in India sometime this year.
