Hyundai has started testing the next-generation Grand i10 hatchback, which is expected to make its India debut sometime in 2020. The all-new car will be the second generation of the Grand i10 in India, and will also form the  basis for the next-generation Xcent.

The all-new Hyundai Grand i10 will take on vehicles, such as the Maruti Swift and the  Ford Figo. In terms of size, it’s likely to get slightly larger. The design will get a major revamp with the new car getting Hyundai’s brand new design philosophy including the cascading grille. In fact, such changes have already been observed on the test car.

The Hyundai Grand i10’s current version has not acquitted itself well in the Global NCAP crash test, which pronounced that the car’s structure was not stable. The next-generation version is likely to fix this, and also meet the  upcoming Bharat New Vehicle Safety Assessment Program (BNVSAP).

Apart from the stronger body structure, twin airbags, ABS, reverse parking sensors, a speed alert system and seat belt warning light are the safety features that are likely to become standard on the new car. The new Grand i10 is also expected to get revised petrol and diesel engines that are Bharat Stage 6 (BS6) emission norms ready.

Another key mechanical change on the car will be the inclusion of an automated manual transmission option, which will be borrowed from the new Santro. Both petrol and diesel variants of the new Grand i10 are expected to benefit from AMT technology considering that the segment-leading Maruti Swift offers the same.

On the inside, expect Hyundai to make sweeping changes in terms of the interior design while also adding a lot of features. The new Grand i10 could possibly be the most feature-rich car in its segment. As for pricing, the new car is likely to start from a little under Rs.5 lakhs.
