Swedish luxury car maker Volvo will launch the 2015, 2nd generation version of the flagship XC90 SUV in India by the middle of next year. The XC90 was unveiled earlier this year to a rapturous welcome. Based on Volvo’s Scalable Platform Architecture (SPA), the XC90 is the first SUV to use this platform, which will underpin a range of new Volvo luxury cars and SUVs. The Swedish automaker also the Compact Modular Architecture (CMA) that is meant for smaller cars in its range. Coming back to the XC90, the SUV will sit right at the top of Volvo’s car range in India.
Both petrol and diesel engine options will be offered on the 2015 Volvo XC90 sold here. The petrol and diesel engines will be turbocharged and will use 4 cylinder layouts. These engines belong to the new Drive E engine family that has fuel efficiency and low tail pipe emissions as its key attributes. This is the reason why Volvo is going with four cylinder units even on a large SUV such as the XC90. The 2 liter turbo diesel motor on the 2015 XC90 for the Indian market is likely to make 225 Bhp-470 Nm, with the 2 liter twin turbo petrol motor managing 320 Bhp-400 Nm.
The interiors of the 2015 Volvo XC90 have also been completely revamped with a new design, high quality materials and a brand new infotainment system operated by means of a touch screen. The latest XC90 SUV is a 7 seater, just like its predecessor. The 2015 XC90 SUV, like all other Volvo cars sold in India, will be imported as a completely built unit. Expect pricing to be pegged above the 60 lakh rupee mark, which is a noticeable premium over the outgoing model that sold for 56 lakh rupees. The other big story around the Volvo XC90 is the amount of safety kit it comes loaded with.
