Skoda is in many ways offering the Vento disguised as the Rapid only at a much more affordable price. So, what are the features and gadgets that make the Rapid such a good buy? Here we explore the features available in the top trim Rapid Elegance variant.
Attractive design: The Rapid has a typically Skoda look with vertical slats on the grille (like the Fabia) and large fog lamps. The sculpted bonnet adds sporty flair to the otherwise elegant looking Rapid. However its resemblance to the Fabia may turn down buyers who are looking for exclusivity. The Rapid is a good alternative for those who find the Vento’s plain vanilla design, a bit boring.
Rear AC vents: The Rapid is equipped with adjustable dual rear air conditioning vents, a feature also offered in the Vento.
Adjustable steering wheel: The Rapid’s four spoke steering wheel is great to hold and very comfortable to turn, thanks to its sporty design. The steering wheel is adjustable for both reach and rake. Hence, finding the perfect driving position is quite easy in Rapid. It would have been great if Rapid had audio mounted controls on the steering wheel just like the new Vento Highline variant has.
Well equipped music player: The 2-DIN audio player in the Rapid comes with a multi-function console, CD player, auxiliary audio input, AM/FM radio and is connected to front and rear speakers. Surprisingly, Skoda offers SD/MMC data card reader instead of the USB connecting port which is highly expected.
Ergolever: The Rapid has a pair of ‘ergolever’ (ergonomical lever) attached to the sides of the front row seats. This allows the rear passengers to adjust the front seats to get their desired legroom.
Multi-function display: The multi-function display in the Rapid gives an instant update on the immediate fuel consumption, average fuel consumption, travel distance before refueling, time travelled, distance travelled, average speed, service interval, outside temperature and time.
Electrically adjustable mirrors: The electrically adjustable mirrors offer easy access to a view of the tailing traffic. It would have been nicer if Skoda offered the Rapid with integrated turn indicators on these outer mirrors as several cars which are a segment lower than the Rapid have them.
Dual airbags: The Rapid comes with front dual airbags for the safety of the driver and the front passenger during collision. It misses out curtain airbags offered in one of its rival, the Hyundai Verna.
Climate control: The Rapid also comes with automatic climate control to make sure that the temperature inside the cabin stays pleasant irrespective of how the weather outside is.
