The 2014 Sau Paulo Motor Show is just days away from kicking off and a hotly anticipated reveal at the motor show is the new compact SUV from Japanese automaker Nissan. The new compact SUV will be aimed at emerging markets such as Brazil and India. Dubbed the Extrem II, the concept’s arrival will sketch out Nissan’s plans in the sub-4 meter compact SUV space, below the badge engineered Terrano. In India, the production version of the Extrem-II SUV concept is likely to challenge the Ford EcoSport, and upcoming compact SUVs such as the Mahindra S102 the Maruti Suzuki XA Alpha.
Nissan put out a teaser of the Extrem-II compact SUV concept last week, and the automaker has now followed up with another teaser. This time around, the compact SUV seems much more inclined towards a production future than the Extrem I concept ever was. Also, the lines of the Extrem-II, as seen on the teaser, indicate compact dimensions and the Nissan family face up front. 2016 is the estimated schedule for the Extrem II to make the leap from concept into production. India too, may have her tryst with a new Nissan compact SUV the same year. Official word arrived just weeks ago.
Now, the Extrem I SUV concept, which made its debut at the 2012 Sau Paulo Motor Show, used the Nissan Micra’s V platform. However, the Extrem II concept could take the CMF-A approach given the fact that the Renault-Nissan as a group is shifting enmasse to the new, common module family architecture. Petrol and turbo diesel engines are likely to be in the mix as the propulsion options for the new compact SUV from Nissan. More details about this vehicle is expected to be available only the Extrem-II concept hits the show floor at Sau Paulo in the coming days.
