Nissan Kicks coming to India soon

Nissan India has already begun working on their next major product for the Indian market, the Kicks. The Kicks is a compact SUV which was unveiled last year for the international market.

In the Indian market, the car will be based on the same platform that the current Duster and Terrano are based on. Even the soon to be launched Renault Kaptur is going to be based on the same platform. The new Kicks will sit above the Terrano and will take on the Kaptur.

While engine details are not yet known, we will know more when its sibling the Kaptur is introduced in the market. The company could either choose to continue with the existing 1.5 liter K9K diesel engine that powers their range or could opt for a new 1.6 liter engine which is being developed specially for the Kaptur. Recently, Renault introduced a 1.5 liter petrol engine on the Duster with a CVT ( 105 Bhp/142 Nm) which could also be on offer.

What makes the Kicks special is that it is a funky looking SUV. It has a floating roof design with dual tone colours, something that the Indian market has taken a liking to. We already have the Vitara Brezza with that design theme and now  the Creta too has the option of dual tone roof.

The interiors too are on the funky side. The international market gets a digital instrument cluster and a large touch screen system that controls all the infotainment. While we are not sure if the digital instrument cluster will make it to India or not. the touch screen will sure make it. Currently, the Terrano offers the same touch screen unit as that on the Duster, which isn’t really large and a similar unit is expected on the Kaptur as well.

While initial reports suggested that the Kicks was to be showcased at the 2018 Auto Expo, it is believed that the company is not participating in the Expo and hence the launch should take place sometime next year itself.
