Nissan Kicks was globally unveiled in Brazil last year and will soon launch in India. The Kicks will be launched in the third quarter of 2018, which translates into July-September period.
As per a report in Autocar, the Kicks will be different in India than the international counterpart. In the Brazilian and UAE market, the Kicks is based on the Nissan’s V-platform, but the Indian version will be based on the Renault Kaptur’s platform. The platform is the modified version of the M0 platform that forms the base of Duster and Lodgy too.
The change of platform comes after Renault-Nissan Alliance’s strategy in India. The alliance works with two platforms CMF-A and CMF-A+ for the small to midsize cars while the M0 platform forms the base of larger products. Renault-Nissan has worked to localise the M0 platform and it is very cost effective when compared to the other platforms, the cost advantage will force Renault to use the M0 platform.
The M0 platform was developed by Renault for its affordable brand, Dacia. Renault has first rights to use the platform and hence, the Kaptur will arrive in the market first and then the Kicks will follow after a year. This will be similar to the Duster and Terrano arrival in India.
The Kicks may get design changes when the platform is changed. Currently, the car looks very attractive with a floating roof, massive wheel arches and muscular looks. The car will compete against the Mahindra XUV500 and upcoming cars like Toyota CHR and Renault Kaptur.
The Kicks will be powered by similar engine options like the Duster. There will be a 1.6-litre petrol engine and the 1.5-litre diesel engine on the offer. Nissan will work on the engine tune of the car to make it more powerful for the segment.
