Nissan working on 7-seater version of the Magnite: Details

According to Autocar India, Nissan has started working on a 7-seater version of the Magnite. Earlier, the manufacturer wanted to simply rebadge the Renault Triber but the Renault and Nissan’s vehicles have not been successful when it comes to rebadging vehicles. So, Nissan decided to develop an all-new product but that requires more development cost.

Nissan will not make any changes to the structure or design. So, an additional bench seat will be placed in the boot of the Magnite. They should be able to fold which would make the boot more usable. Entry to the third-row will be by entering by folding the second-row which would come with 60:40 split seats.

This is not the first time that a manufacturer has decided to fit in an additional third-row in a sub-compact SUV. Kia has already done this with the Sonet and they are selling it in Indonesia. Unlike Nissan, Kia did increase the length of the Sonet to accommodate the third-row seats. But at the end of the day, the Sonet and Magnite are still sub-compact SUVs because of this there is no proper space for the third-row occupants.

To tackle this, Nissan would equip the second-row seats with a sliding mechanism. This would help in altering the legroom of the second and third-row. So, when the third-row occupants need more legroom, the second-row seats can be slided forward and when no one is using a, the second row can be slided back which will open up more legroom for the second-row occupants.

Magnite has been a huge success in the Indian market for Nissan. It has been priced very aggressively too. The Triber might be doing well but people want to buy a compact SUV instead of a MPV. So, Nissan Magnite 7-seater would be able to differentiate itself from the Triber. It will basically be a 5+2 seater where the vehicle is meant to be a 5-seater vehicle primarily but can seat additional 2 persons in case needed. The third-row would be best for children only. The 7-seater Magnite would be good for people who have to use occasionally use the third-row seats.

Magnite 7-seater will most likely use more powerful 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine that is also doing duty on the Magnite and the Renault Kiger. It produces 100 PS of max power and 160 Nm. Gearbox options will be a 5-speed manual gearbox or a CVT automatic transmission. The torque output is decreased to 152 Nm if the person opts for the CVT transmission.

Once launched, there will be no direct rival of the Magnite 7-seater. Because of now, there are no compact SUVs that are offered with a 7-seater configuration. However, the Magnite 7-seater would compete against the Renault Triber, Maruti Suzuki XL6 and the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga.

Nissan might offer the 7-seater version only with some of the variants. The feature list is also expected to stay the same. So, it would come with a digital instrument cluster, a touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, LED headlamps with LED Daytime Running Lamps, automatic climate control and much more.
