Numerous cars destroyed after floods in North India [Video]

The early onset of monsoon across the country reduced the scorching heat, especially in the northern plains of the country. The North Indian states, particularly Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand, have experienced severe rainfall and devastating floods, resulting in significant damage and loss of life. Social media platforms have been inundated with videos depicting the destruction caused by heavy rain, including cars being washed away.

One such video, shared on Twitter by a user named Abhishek Jha, shows cars being swept away by floodwaters in Manikaran, Himachal Pradesh. The force of the rushing water swiftly carries the parked cars downstream, leaving no opportunity for intervention.

The heavy flow of floodwater from the hills overwhelmed the cars, despite being parked in what appeared to be a designated parking area.

The rainfall has particularly affected hilly towns like Manali, leaving tourists stranded with limited means of rescue. Footage reveals significant damage to major roads and bridges in Himachal Pradesh due to the relentless flow of floodwaters. The connectivity between these hilly areas and nearby cities such as Chandigarh and New Delhi has been severed as these cities also grapple with heavy rainfall and flooding.

The Weather Department has issued warnings urging residents and tourists to remain indoors and avoid unnecessary travel. Car owners are advised to park their vehicles in elevated areas, away from the swiftly flowing waters. The situation remains critical, with the potential for further damage as flood-like conditions persist.

Overall, the region is grappling with the devastating consequences of torrential rainfall and flooding, resulting in significant disruptions to transportation and the safety of residents and tourists alike.

Residents using boats to commute

Most of the underpasses across Delhi-NCR have shut down due to the rains. A few days ago, residents of Gurugram, which is also known as the Millenium City used rafting boats to commute.

The video posted on the ‘Gurugram News’ YouTube channel may seem amusing at first glance, but it actually highlights the subpar infrastructure and road conditions in Jharsa Road, Gurugram. Despite being known for its high cost of living and quality standards, the city is plagued by poor road quality. The video captures a reporter navigating a boat through knee-deep water on a busy road in broad daylight.

While crossing paths with numerous vehicles, the reporter emphasizes the difficulties faced by residents due to this issue. In a city like Gurugram, where the per capita income is high and modern infrastructure is expected, waterlogging problems during the monsoon season are distressing and pose significant challenges for commuters.

Waterlogging has become a major problem affecting common citizens, particularly during heavy rainfall. Insufficient drainage systems and inadequate road construction contribute to waterlogging issues across the country, not just in Gurugram but also in major cities like Mumbai and Bengaluru.
